Any time i start up the game it says there is an update available for download, it gets to about 40% and then it comes up as download error. Does anyone know what this might be? Btw its a big download as it took quite a while.

After you fail 40%.. press OK, then Press PS button, and quit game. Then start the game again.. It will start from 0 again, but in reality its 40%. So once you pass 60% game will (should) finish updating..
As well you can go into GT5P's menu, online menu and delete CACHE or something like that it said, you wont miss it.
Then save.. quit game, and start game again, agree to download patch..
After you download patch, it should fix your problem with new updates.
