Okay,
Here is the situation: My PS2 is playing some games and not others. I can load GT3 and my PSone games without problems.
Some of the NEW games we got for Christmas will not load without endless "reset"s if at all.
I have run two different cleaning discs, multiple times, and it has not really helped.
I am especially bummed because the durn thing will not load my new "LeMans 24HR" disc.

It plays most movies, a lot of the games, and PSone stuff.

Any suggestions, similar experiences?

BTW, sending it off for repairs is about 100 bucks and a several week wait, and buying a new one is 200, but instant gratification.

Yes, Sony can repair it for free if the warranty isn't void, but i really haven't had any experience like that at all. Btw, if you have it vertical at the moment, set it down horizontal, i had a problem like that with GT3 but i had the PS2 vertical and it was stuffing up.

I just put my Horizontal a few days ago because the place I had it in vertically didn't haven't enough aif-flow. Make sure it doesn't have dust on anything, either. Buy some compressed air and get some dust off the fan, etc.

Thanks for all the replies. The link to Gamefaqs didn't work. But I will take a trip over there in the very near future.
I currently have the PS2 horizontal. I have too many kids and cats runnining around here to feel safe with it mounted vertically. I may have to find a can of compressed air at Wally-world next time I'm there and try that.
As far as the warranty the thing is a year old now and I think its out of warranty.
I will give all the advice a shot.
Again, thanks guys.:D

For what Sony wants just to "crack the case" $120, I am only $80 away from just buying a new one.
I would rather just invest a bit of time in 'safely' cleaning the dumb thing. Or sending it off to my son's IT computer class for voltage adjustment for FREE.
If I end up with a FUBAR PS2, I can use the $120 I saved towards a new machine.

Mine is over a year old.
I believe that my only recourse is to fix it or replace it out of pocket.

Just buy a new one.

New unit - $199 plus tax
Fixing the old unit - $120 plus tax and shipping.
