Problems with Winamp 3

Ok, I'm not expecting a whole lot of help on this one but here goes... Ever since I got my computer and installed Winamp 3 on it, it has crashed repeatedly whenever i try to use the visualization studio. I'm not talking the program crashing, I mean Winamp 3 locks up my entire system and I have to hard reboot it. I've reinstalled it and it still doesn't work. It will play mp3s and all but if I launch the visualization studio it locks up. Does anyone have any ideas on how to prevent this?

Im not sure on this but maybe it could be a problem with the video card. Maybe its not supported or it could be the video drivers. Like I said I'm not sure on this cuz I've never had problems with winamp3.

Well if its the video drivers, I'm not sure if I have the latest drivers because I'm running whatever drivers came installed with XP pro when I got my system. They are dated 10/20/2002. I'm not sure where I should get updated drivers from either because I'm not sure what manufacturer made my card and I'm not sure if its better to download drivers from Nvidia or the manufacturer. My card is an 8x AGP Ti 4200.

All nVidia cards have Unified Drivers. You download the Detonator drivers from nvidia.com and they work for all of their cards. The latest Detonator version is 43.45.

Well aparently those drivers were released on Thursday(March 27). I've been meaning to update them anyway. Maybe that will solve my problems.

Ok, I downloaded and installed the latest detonator drivers from Nvidia. However during the install, I noticed a message saying the drivers were not digitally signed by microsoft. I said continue with the install since I saw that my card was clearly supported on Nvidias website for the drivers. My question is, should I worry about the digitally signed thing or just ignore it?

It just means that they havn't been cleared with Microsoft. That can take a LONG time, so sometimes they just don't give them to Microsoft to test out and stuff. I'd recommend using them, ignore the warning, and also have the other drivers as a backup.

Ok that would explain it. I have the drivers that came installed on my system on cd. I guess I'll just go ahead and download DX 9. Thanks Rjensen11.

I just hope, yeah, the basic resolution(600x800) works on video cards if drivers aren't loaded, right? It just uses the standard VGA 600x800, right? I sure hope so if those drivers do something funky....

Yeah, it'd have to work, because yeah, when you do fresh installs of OS's, the monitor works....

Yeah it worked when I uninstalled the drivers I had. And to top it off, I think I'm getting about 10 to 15 fps more in UT2003 with these new drivers and DX9.
