Incidentally, I found this on pretendracecars.net
Riiight....

I'm always eager to learn :) 👍 (not sarcasm btw, I'm genuinely interested on how money works in game development)
OK, that's always good. My first advice would be to stay far, far away from that hate mongering & defamation blog. It's just a destructive force, it's not there to help gamers or tell the truth. Second, that spreadsheet is not SMS' accounting and the game hasn't sold 1.5M (yet!). Apart from general knowledge, we don't know the specifics - part of that will come after the first quarter, when SMS gets paid (and presumably also pays yet more bills). Until then, speculation isn't going to do anybody any good, especially with an anti SMS agenda (like said blog).

Sorry to say its same here, people typing without a bit knowledge

I wonder where the money from PCARS1 sales went? If they sell 1 million copies at $60 each that would give them 60 million. 1/3 to WMD members, 1/3 to developers and 1/3 for funding the next game would still give them 20 million. That's before adding revenue from DLC sales. If they are asking for people's money again I'm afraid this will all end up the same.

"Why don't we have Ferraris? It's a crowd funded game and license are expensive."

"Why is it so buggy? It's pretty good for a crowd funded game etcetera et al."

And this might just be me, but isn't the point of open development is that every member of the community can have an equal say? Having Diamond membership that gives you 100 votes kinda defeats the purpose. Only a few prominent people will have a major say in how the game develops - which is the same as traditional game making.
What? $60 dollars profit on a single sale? They do not make anywhere near $60 a game. Your figures are waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay off.

This... mindset or whatever it is that a business needs to be charitable first and foremost and should almost never charge anything for labor is borderline hilarious (read: stupid) at this point.

What pays for the content in the games, hopes and dreams? What keeps the offices running, again, hopes and dreams?

Yes, how dare licensing not be straight-forward and free.

Funny how game companies went a few decades without having to receive payment before they had actually finished their games. Or better yet, did not outsource play testing of their games to the consumers, who actually pay to do it. It's a shoddy way of doing business. No one is saying that they should do it for free. They've sold more than a million copies, plus all the extra money they got from the crowdfunding of the original game. You'd think they could use this money to invest into their new installment. You know. Like other big companies do?

I don't recall any other franchise that announce cars that are going to be featured in their game 6-12 months before release, only to then sell them as DLC. The cars announced way ahead of the release were obviously licensed. Otherwise, they wouldn't have been able to announce their inclusion. If PD announced the McLaren P1 for GT7, and used it in promotional material, people would throw a fit if it was withhold in order to be day one paid DLC, or if it was released as paid DLC later on. The exact same thing should hold true for SMS. They don't get a free pass just because they don't have a massive publisher behind them.

In conclusion. No, it's not a charity. But business needs to be conducted in such a way that the consumer isn't being screwed over. They need to get a finished product on release, not months after. And when a company uses assets for promotional material, those same assets better damn well be in the finished product, and not be sold as DLC.

SMS is not a big company it's a tiny company! Like only 40 workers.

What's happened to this place...The Anti SMS Planet

Yes, of coursae they have started working on a new game. They're a game development studio. That's how it works.

And they don't need lots of funding (although every bit helps); the sign up will be open for a limited time. WMD/pCARS 2 is an opportunity for enthusiasts to be on the inside and be part of the development process :)

Enthusiast signed up and happy to give my input. I and many GTPlanet members have spent time contributing many posts to GT5/6/7 development ideas. However most of those ideas tend to fall on stony ground. It's been quite refreshing to see a game come out that has so much of what I want in a racing game.

I'm happy to contribute to the development of Project CARS 2. I've been impressed with the way the head of the studio has handled much of the less helpful posts received on the Project CARS forum.

In my experience on PS4 the game has given me the most fun I've had in any computer game on any platform in 4 decades of gaming. As others have said there is still a big team (40) working on Project CARS 1. SMS have been up front with that sort of information along with what they are developing. I look forward to contributing my ideas over the next few years when I'm not playing Project CARS (1).

More like 140.
And this (Quoted from another forum)
"Over at VirtualpcarsR Ian has already stated that they have more than enough money to make pcars2. This isn't even crowdfunding, this is simply taking advantage of your fanboys by having them give you money for the privilege of seeing what the dev builds look like and having access to a closed forum where they can be guided on how to be the best marketing tool they can be. No profits will be shared, no input will actually be implemented, and no ****s will be given.

What is really sad is that there are seemingly intelligent members of the community that will still buy into this hoping for more than what it actually is and this will quite possibly become a normal procedure in game development in the future."

Whatever you like it or not... It's business these days.

All I hope for (really do, nearly demanding it), and we'll see it in the next 22 month, is good support and polished game of Pcars (1)!! Fingers crossed existing bugs get smashed and enjoying this title for at least 2 years is what we get. That's what I paid for!

The whole crowd-funding thing really flabbergasted me when gamers everywhere screamed and hollered that "SONY WON E3!!!" because they announced a literal Kickstarter for a game the public would fund even though in reality 2 million won't come anywhere near funding the requirements of Shenmue III so Sony will probably contribute the majority of the cash necessary.
We now live in an age where a beta is supposedly a bonus, Season Passes at the price of a full title are deemed regular and early-access is a positive.

It's mind-blowing stuff, when will movies and novels on the main-stream start being made on Kickstarter I wonder?

140 is still very tiny, Capcom are considered a very small Japanese company and they have over 2600 working for them.

140 very tiny, what does that make Kunos with 18?

(answer: Overachievers.)
You guys came over for a bashing party?

All sorts of people are posting here for the first time (in a while at least). If you really don't like pCARS/SMS/Ian/WMD/etc. why stick around? Please enjoy some other games, I'm sure that's a much better use of your time.

Speaking of Kunos, they did a great job on the game, but it shows they have a tiny budget and only 18 ppl. This doesn't make me want to go to their page or forums and start complaining about stuff that id like to see implemented.

It's possible to criticize them without being anti-SMS. I think you just see a lot of criticism here which makes it seem like everyone hates them, when in reality many are just frustrated that it's not as polished as it was supposed to be and want it all fixed before throwing any more money at them.

A bashing party? People are partaking in discussion about a huge piece of news regarding the WMD and pCARS series, why shouldn't people post and let their thoughts be heard, especially those who purchased the first game in the series?

It's not like pCARS has a god-given right to not be scrutinized like GT/Forza/anything is on the internet.
Also, I am playing other games right now as well as posting. Pretty sure others can do the same!

This is what I do when I'm playing games too, as well as when I'm working on my new series.👍

Personally I don't care much one way or another about SMS. I haven't bought pCARS and don't plan to, it just doesn't have the content I want.
As for Kunos and AC you are right their size does show. Similarly with ISI and rFactor2.
Is pointing out that WMD is as much about marketing than anything else bashing? If you say so. If it gets you that worked up this forum does have an "ignore" function, does it not?

You think? While AC has great physics the racing aint that good neither is the AI or the part it's supposed to be a full game...It could be the new real driving simulator.

It doesn't get me that worked up. Just "partaking in discussion" and suggesting alternatives to discussing something you won't (ever?) play.

A long time ago, actually, here's a few hundred of them:

Did you see Kung Fury? I's brilliant fun!

Get with the times, and remember that it's all voluntary. If you don't want to have some fun, rest assured that others will ;)
