Episode 1: Nightmare Opens the Thirdeye
It was a normal summer day in Costa Di Amalfi, people were enjoying themselves along the coast, enjoying the sun and the sea. Some were at their homes alongside the rugged, steep mountain roads. This was the typical day in Costa di Amalfi.
But when nightime falls the quiet streets of the mountain becomes a gathering for street racers. One racer who was exceptionally known in these parts was ThirdEye. He travels alone to scout tracks or opponents with his 200hp Mazda RX-7 FC GT-Limited. His skill was known throughout the mountain, perhaps it would spread out even farther since he has garnered the reputation of a WRS Division 3 driver. Amateur drivers would bow down before him if they battled, and professional racers would be humbled by his skill and techniques.
Tonight he was driving around in his FC looking over the amateur drivers that drove around that night. He thought it would just be another routine night that would bore him out. Seeing the Amateur drivers drive around at slow speeds really bore him. One of the amateur local drivers drove to the top of the mountain and told him that there was a new car that was coming up.
"What's so special about that?" he replied.
"It looks like an MR2! Also it's pretty damn fast. It just passed one of my guys easily and recklessly" the local driver replied.
"And if you would rate his skill what would you say?" said Thirdeye.
"He might be as good as you, or maybe even better" he said.
"This guy you mentioned what car was he driving?! Be specific, i think i oughta check him out." "Looks like tonight will be very interesting" he thought to himself
The local driver gave the details of the new car that came tonight. So Thirdeye set out in his FC to look for this car in the mountains. Surely he saw the car, it was a blue Toyota MR2 AW11 1600 G-limited Supercharged model. It was parked in the nearby gallery, resting for a moment. He parked beside it and got off his FC to approach the car. "It seemed empty" he thought. He was observing the car, wondering also where is it's driver.
Then from out of the darkness, someone just popped from nowhere. "Ahhhh... that feels much better..." the man said. "Hmmm, who are you?" he asked Thirdeye. "I'm Thirdeye pleased to meet you" he puts out his hand to shake the strangers hand, then he noticed that his fly was open. He points out that... "WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!....."
Stranger: "Damn that was embarrassing!"
Thirdeye: "Hahahaha, nevermind about that... so what's you name?"
Stranger: "Vin, but i go by my street name which is Nightmare."
Thirdeye: "How much power does that MR2 make?"
Nightmare: "About 195."
Thirdeye: "Cool... i heard you are a good driver. One if the local amateurs told me that."
Nightmare: "I think they are exaggerating a bit. I'm still a fairly new learner and racer."
Thirdeye: "Really? they said you drove like hell when you passed them."
Nightmare: "Nah... i was just in a rush cause nature was calling."
Thirdeye: "Well that wasn't what they thought... say are you interested in having a battle?"
Nightmare: "What type?"
Thirdeye: "Since the roads here are narrow, we can't do a side by side start.. so we go for leader - chaser type of race... you know that don't you?"
Nightmare: "Yeah, of course i do. Sounds cool!"
Thirdeye: "Ok then, since you are the visitor i think i oughta chase you for now, see if you are capable and able. You have previewed the course already right?"
Nightmare: "Yup, already have the course memorized."
Thirdeye: "Good, I'll just call up the locals to tell them to stop their runs right away"
A few minutes later...
Both cars are at the start position, the galleries are filled and the morning is close. The count down begins, "5...4...3...2...1...GO!" both cars launch of the start line like lightning. The AW11 is ahead for the 1st run followed closely by the chasing FC. Before entering the 1st of the 4 uphill hairpins Thirdeye realizes that Nightmare was braking too early and his braking was light, it was like he was still unsure on how to tackle the corners. Thirdeye pushed on to the right side attempting a pass of the AW11 using his course knowledge of braking points and proper lines. He was able get side by side with the AW11 at the exit. However he was surprised at how strong the AW11 accelarated at the exit, "What the hell? How can that underpowered car accelarate out of a corner with such speed?". They tackled the 2nd of the 4 uphill hairpins the similar way, with Thirdeye pulling close to the left side this time and getting side by side, but the result at the exit was still similar. Listening upon the engine revs and shifting points, Thirdeye was able to finally notice what was the difference between their 2 cars. "So that's what it was" he said, smirking to himself. This time he followed the MR2 more patiently on the uphill waiting for a chance to attack on the downhill would be the perfect strategy for Thirdeye. When they got to the darkest part of the mountain was where the real battle began. The Esses there proved to be difficult for the FC to handle at high speeds. the MR2 was able to pull away slightly but the downhill section came and Nightmare was slightly thrown off by his entry speed at the right hander after the dark sections. The FC was able to catch up to it and the downhill started. The point where amateur local drivers would brake because of fear did not falter the 2 drivers, they went all out on the accelarator on the steep section and initiated a braking drift simultaenuosly to enter the left hairpin that waited. "WOOOOHHOOOOOOOOOO!! AWWESOOOMEE!!!" the gallery shouted. Following the left hairpin was a light S turn, "This is my chance!" said Thirdeye. Taking the better line, the FC was able to pull close only to miss a chance again due to the MR2's speed on the exit. The 3 consecutive hairpins was tackled by both drivers evenly and the 1st lap ended with no one winning.
"Time to switch positions! Line up the cars! 5...4...3...2...1...GO!". This time it was the FC leading the MR2. The FC launched at an insane speed, but the MR2 was still behind him. Entering the 1st hairpin the FC showed of some of it's skill by initiating an excellent slide through the corner, it was able to pull away slightly in the entries but it was suffering in the exits. The MR2 would plan to attack on the 3rd hairpin since it is wide enough to allow 2 cars side by side at the exit of the corner. Both passed the 2nd hairpin corner with ease and now comes the 3rd corner. The MR2 was about to make it's move but suddenly the FC hogged the inner lanes. "What the hell?" Nightmare said to himself "Crap! This isn't what i had planned." The FC took the ideal line on that corner that gave it an excellent exit speed and prevented cars behind it to pass. The FC was starting to take a line that prevented the car behind it to pass. Since this wasn't the MR2s home course he wasn't sure how to attack the FC in front. He just followed it patiently and kept up until the finish line. The 2nd lap ended up with no one winning.
Morning was about to break so Thirdeye and Nighmare agreed to cancel the 3rd run and call it a tie for now. However before they left Thirdeye told Nightmare something that might shocked him, "Your still green as a street racer, you brake too early and you didn't hit the apex of the turns, althought that gives you great exit speed that can also be achieved with a proper line. And also your Close transmission set was able to give you the advantage on the straights. Let's settle this sometime soon with my real car". "So this guy wasn't using his full strenght yet!? Damn!" Nightmare thought to himself. "But you are quite good for a newbie, with proper practice you can be really good, just remember that there are a lot more people who are better out there, later then" and like that Thirdeye rode off with his FC along with most of the locals. Nightmare was now more intent on getting better and looking for more challenges ahead...
