Proper distance and height for eyes and screen?

Hello guys, where should your monitor and eyes be at for proper viewing? As in eye level and distance from the monitor? The only info I have found is for the office, cockpits may be different?

Have an F1 style sitting position cockpit and a 24" monitor. Currently my setup feels fine but I would love to know what is the best position.

Thanks!

For a 24" monitor I'd go right in front of the wheel. I run my 32" at about 18 inches from the wheel's rim itself.

Thanks for the reply. Looking through all the pictures of people's setups I was trying to judge the distance and height.

Cheers.

When I first started out, I had a 36-inch LCD tv that was probably 4-feet away from my seat...as pictured below

At least for me, it gave me a pretty good view and didn't feel too close or too far away...

However, what I did wind up doing after this was using 2 or 3 monitor shelves/risers, similar to this:

yM6KrlWK6VZGjNQ0Zs6pVlWrAi9S7RY2Bcl4YrPWwdvuOTyJlysnXPRsLR3dkCmUbXZdlvZi6eUwGUWRVgYB3uwVRv8mkgaA5wcRdgqFdzc6krvtDDthnHheeY2An-1YXfpRVlFkEa-9w9Jv4WVz8mgNHTb8H8IytcmcY_StoICPs4VYzdVjv3Bcc54NYijnkL2esoQ

to raise the TV itself up higher, so that the center of the TV screen was just a bit higher than my eye-sight/line.

In the end, perfect position is 'subjective' and as long as you have the room to freely move the TV you'll be using forward/backward, after a few hours of making a few adjustments here/there and racing a few races, you'll eventually find what works for you.

Hope this helps?

The hight is IMHO the bigger issue than the distance. Because I felt it exhausting for the neck, when the screen was to high/low. So what I did was, I measured the hight above ground of my eyes while sitting in racing position. Then I took this hight more or less as the middle of my screen. The result was, that I don't have to look upwards/downwards anymore. This gives me the most comfortable feeling especially during longer races.

You guys have been very helpful! I was also concerned about not straining my eyes or neck. What I've read about in the office setting is that your eyes should be slightly lower from the top of the screen because it tends to look down. But I guess doing spreadsheets and racing is a little different =P

In that video the wheel is like right up to the monitor! Now I know if using cockpit view it 'should' be positioned like it would be in real-life, makes sense. Chase, hood, or bumper cam users need not apply then.

Thanks everyone. Time to do some fine tuning!
