Proper way to launch Go Kart

Just wrapped up the junior 100 karts (second kart event) and noticed that in every race I would instantly drop to 8th just from the launch. The AI karts get way better off the line than I do.

So far I've tried:
  • hold gas and brake, release brake at the right time (I do this at the real go kart place I go haha)
  • no throttle at all until "go" then floor it
  • full throttle the whole time through the count down
  • mid throttle (as if launching a car)
I never hear wheel spin or anything doing any of those and yet the AI consistently passes me which makes turn 1 really annoying.

Was wondering if others have noticed this too? Am I doing something wrong?

Just hold the throttle and ignore the AI, they even get better starts on the Red Bull Challenge where you have rolling starts.

In the normal karting events I usually make my transmission shorter giving me the upper hand in acceleration, since most gokart tracks are tight and short I find this alot more rewarding than having a high top speed. Also as said by Fuzzi0n, in the Red Bull karting challenge(where you can't change any car settings), they straight out drive faster than you even though its a full throttle rolling start.

The AI maybe using different gearing, if you have the lowest gearing your get a faster start, but it will affect your top speed.

Interesting because I just have it at full revs and I always am off the line quicker than the AI ones who rev the engines while the countdown goes

At the start you can adjust your line to get into the draft of the nearest kart in the other row just turn fully left and the kart will rotate on the grid spot , as soon as you take off full throttle you will catch the draft , and that's it really best way and fastest way to launch ...... Fact (with default gearing) Try it

The same with the RedBull Juniors. Timing is hard, but apply full throttle from idle in between 2 and 1 at the countdown. So that the revs are climbing at launch. Sometimes I launch away faster, sometimes I bog down like Fernando Alonso's Ferrari. If I just sit with full throttle I am usually slowest off the line.

Do you do this with a 100cc DIRECT DRIVE kart?
100CC direct drive are bump start karts, there is no standing starts with them, they always have to be moving. GT Karts aren't direct drive, they have some kind of slipper clutch which unfortunately isn't programmed like a real life kart, all of which launch much better than GT karts.
