Hi

My friend is looking at buying a Samsung 710mp TFT LCD monitor. It comes with a built in TV card and aerial socket and scart sockets. Would this work with a PS2? Below is some spec about the monitor.

Samsung SyncMaster 710MP is a TFT-LCD monitor that takes the concept of multi-tasking to an entirely new level. This 17-inch flat-panel display functions as a computer monitor, a TV and a video monitor - all in one. And all this versatility comes with the clearest pictures, sharpest images and most vivid colors you can imagine. The 710MP delivers next-generation TV functionality with its built-in TV tuner. It also includes a remote control, RCA video & audio, S-Video and a built-in antenna connector to accommodate RGB analog input and NTSC. And thanks to the 710MP's slim, sleek design - plus its wall mount capability - you can enjoy an uncluttered desktop instead of one that's overrun by multimedia equipment.

Yeah, but you might not want to buy it. It was Pako who refered to it as "Samsuck." But in all honesty, that was a different model.

It works but definitely not recommended. If you want to play PS2 on your monitor, just get a capture card for your computer :)

but whats the difference between having a capture card for your PC and using a monitor with a built in TV card????

Sorry for not knowing, just new to all this.

Quality wise they shouldn't be much difference if you're still using the same LCD to play, but if you can use another monitor (ex. a nice CRT or higher quality LCD with better specs) there'll be a difference. The main problem with that LCD is the specs are not the greatest for gaming and movies. Dark spots will seem too dark (i.e. you can't see the different shades of black that well) and there will most likely be ghosting images while you play. So if you use it for a game like GT4, some sections of the screen may seem blurry when in motion.

Using a capture card is good because you can play PS2 and use your computer at the same time with the same monitor. So this lets me play and chat at the same time. There are some decent capture cards that aren't very expensive. Just try to find one that supports DScalar because it makes a huge difference :)

Thanks Spoony, appreciate your help and everyones elses.

What are things to look for spec wise when looking for a good LCD screen? You mention the above ones specs are not that great so what should I look for spec wise??
