PS2 Linux.

Yep. It's ... neat. I'm not a programmer so it's of little use to me other than an additional toy. At the time I bought it the hardware seemed to be worth more than the $200 I paid for it so I thought I was getting a good deal. Pretty good stuff.

There are plenty of other posts / threads on this topic here at GTP. You should try searching for them.

Nope, but I heard about these kits. Its cool that Sony is supporting the modders and Linux community, but beyond novelty value, I dont really see the use. You end up with a slow(ish) processor and kickass graphics capabilites. Thats good for....lets see....playing DVDs and gaming. Wait, thats what the PS2 does already!

Or am I toatlly off the wall? Can you develop PS2 games on it or something else I'm missing?

EDIT
LoudMusic posted while I was composing this reply, so it makes somewhat less sense in the context of his reply.:banghead:

1. Sorry for not searching, It's generally not my first reaction.
2. You can dev with the linux kit. But you can run games and apps in linux, pushing the ps2 to the limit. I use it to edit my ps2 saves and data right off the ps2. Saves time. It is also a good way to get that bios off there. It is also a lot of fun to go out on multiplayer and say, hey I have linux on here.
I even used Linux to play games I wrote in C, on the ps2.. such cool stuff.. Reminds me of back in the day with ps1.. ahh it feels like old times. This also means that eventually, you can use any hardware to play ps2 games... and that will be the best of all.

It's interesting that you're developing on the PS2, but playing the games in Linux on a PS2 can't be much fun. There's so much overhead just for Linux that you're losing the majority of the console's power.

Neat stuff though.
