i have had my original Ps2 since december 2001 but it crashed several times 3 months ago. consequently i cleaned it and just last week it broke again.I think its knackered so now ive got a PS2 slimline my only query is that can i leave it on for at least 8 hours (b-spec) for the endurance, taking its size into acount n all. I would appreciate some help

Some friends and I ran three straight 24 hour enduros with no problems on the slim PStwo.

Question: Do you really think SONY would release an "enhanced" version of the PS2 which performance would be poorer than the earlier version?

IMO that thing should be able to be on for at least a year. (that's how long my "old" PS2's been on, bought it two yrs ago)

The Slime line ps2 will be fine as long as its in a cool place. 👍
the older ps2 has a fan to cool its self down and the slimeline hasnt so put it out of direct sun light and it should be fine 👍

if you have carpets in your house it may be wise to put the ps2 on a mat or on a desk. mine is on my oak floor. just a thought because thats what i have to do with my laptop.

Ehmm, I'm not trying to be insulting or anything, but you've misspelt 3 of the 7 favourite cars mentioned in your sig.... :)

Take it to the PM's gentlemen.

Back on topic. We've got a slimline at home and we've run all of the 24 hour races on it at least twice. A good accessory to get is the vertical stand, as this helps cooling a lot. I usually put it on the stand and in front of a fan or the AC (my AC is low on the wall, so if the PS2 is on the floor, it gets a straight blast. :D ). Only problem is accidentally tipping over the PS2 and adding to the scratch collection on your GT4 disc... :(

Hi guys i've got a slimline PS2 and it's been on for 3 days solid now (im on my third 24 hours race) and no problems so far! I have it on top of 2 hard plastic video cases one either side so air can flow underneath it. The PS2 case is slighty warm but nothing like i thought it would would get, the power pack on the other hand is VERY warm so i have stood it on its side so more air can flow around it, hope this helps!

At first, I was paranoid about this, and for all of my 24h races, I raised it about an inch from the ground in addition to a high power fan blowing on it. However, on my latest 24h race, I kept it on for all 24 hours with the only cooling technique was raising it off the ground with two small Kleenex packets. And when I got my F1, I felt my PSTwo and it was warm, but not hot.

Bottom line, I wouldn't worry too much about it. If you have it laying on carpet, then raising it is a necessity.

I by no means an expert on the subject but i thought the only reason the 'fat' ps2 needed the fan was because the transformer was inside the ps2. On the slimline one isnt the transformer at the plug? therefore a fan is not needed inside the ps2 as the plug itself has got plenty of free flowing air around it to cool it.

Like i say i could be wrong but just my 2 cents.

The internals in the PSTwo still heat up ALOT during gameplay.High performance computers not only need PSU fans but other fans to cool down the GPU's,CPU's and everything else.

today in the morning, i was playing gt4 on my slim PS2 and I put it up vertically cause it was feeling kind of warm. And cause I didnt have the vertical stand, the controller wire accidently knocked over my PS2!!! :nervous: Somehow it was still loading and it worked fine after. Thumbs up for Sony Quality. 👍 👍 👍

There are accessories that arou out for "slim" round here they sell gooseneck USB fans like the y do for the laptops.. point it straight at the vents and let 'er rip! also, what my bro and i do is really the correct what to cool the bugger down. buy the cheap lookin vertical stand. it may look weird but the air around "slim" will cool it down for sure, also havin an A/C is a MAJOR plus!

im sorry but theres no way im agreeing to that. I have one of the later versions of the 'fat' ps2 and fat ps2 + gt4 = much crashing. hmm.. Everynow and again it freezes during menu transitions, and muh ps2 only plays dvd's after many attempts at restarting. Quality seems to be a foreign thing in todays market place plagued with nothing but cheap crap. Good money goes on more gadgets rather then better quality materials.

Why is everyone saying the slimline ps2 has no fan in it?? i have one and i think it does! every now and then i hear it!

And where do you think they could fit this supposed fan?..lol

You wouldnt have thought they could have shrunk the console 75% either would you?

I just hear it when am playing - i really do think there is one in it!

Sony incorporated several design changes to reduce the size of the system. The most drastic change is the removal of the rear expansion bay. The loss of the expansion bay eliminates support for the 40GB internal hard disk drive and the PlayStation 2 Network Adaptor. Networking functionality will still be available because Sony has integrated the Ethernet and modem network adapter into the new system, but Final Fantasy XI fans and other HDD users will need to stick with the older, Vana'diel-friendly PS2 system. Taking a page out of the notebook-design playbook, the new PS2 unit now has an external AC power adaptor. The change moves a decent amount of volume from the system into an external power brick. Sony has also removed the rear system exhaust fan. The new system uses a small, internal cooling fan for airflow.

the more conectrated the hardware becomes the more airflow it needs because they warm each other up... you think they would have put a bigger fan in it...lol

Well yes and no is my answer

Yes - being it heats up quite a bit which can be worrying,

No - maybe it can handle it, my 'fat' ps2 wouldnt play GT4 so i went and got the slimline and i had it on for about 4 days solid at one point, once it heats up so far it doesnt get any hotter and no performance change! 👍

but i do know what you mean - it must be tiny!!! lol

lol.. causing the wires to solder together....lol.. making it better o.O...lol. a playstation by summer, an efficient heater by winter. What will they think of next.

Well, weve found the fan. If im not mistaken, is that the top view?.. if it is then the fans blowing hot air around seeing that theres no ventilation above it..... Especially because its placed next to the Ram's heat sinks.
