Can't anybody be disappointed with 720p? I personally can't tell the difference, but if i had a ginourmous TV i probably would be disappointed too.

Sure they can, but to make a big deal out of it with the current generation of consoles where 720p is and has been the norm, is well...

I've been playing Shift for an hour or more now. You can tell it's 720p. It looks great though. If the fact that it's 720p and a touch grainier than GT5 kills the game for you then you're a crybaby or a graphics first kind of guy.

27 inch HD tv here, for reference.

Many setups do not benefit from 1080p, although lots of people try to convince themselves they can tell the difference ;)

My setup places my eyes 7 feet from my 40" 1080P screen, which just happens to be right at the beginning of the viewing distance where 1080p starts[\B] to become noticeable. In other words, 720P gives me all the detail my eyes can perceive from my viewing distance/screen size.

A graphic thread? Thanks a lot :P So what about this damn frame rate on the PS3 version? I would like to have more informations. Frame drops any? Does the frame change from running alone in a time trial to racing with 15 opponents?

The graphics are finemost peoples TVs can handle 1080 and even if they could it set up wrong the game looks beutiful

Im still amazed people still dont get that the PS3 just doesnt do well when it comes to multiplats?? How long has this been going on? 4 years + and people still are not used to it?

Wise up people!

I think F1 2010 was pretty even... but you're right most games look better on the Xbox and thats because the PS3 is harder to code not because it has worse hardware.

Yeah it was..infact PS3 version was better...that is because Codies lead on PS3 and port over which gets the best results.

There are plethora of issues where you and I never agree, but this one has just united us in way still unseen in this forum :D

This thread is plagued with nonsense on most amusing level imaginable

Yes seems quite a few people on this thread post technical stuff before fully understanding or checking something.

Regards resolutions:
PS3 games that run 1080p which are few, most often use 1280x1080 Native.
The confusion with some people is that FULL HD as used by Blu Ray Movies is higher being 1920x1080.

However a resolution is defined by its "Vertical Resolution" and always has been. Err 480,540,720,1080 as examples.

So technically PS3 games even if 1280x1080 are 1080p as they have 1080 vertical resolution but are not "Full HD 1080p" See theirs a difference.

The PS3 DOES have scaling ability indeed but only works "Vertically". With native 720p games it only has to vertically scale the resolution to 1080 but maintaining the same 1280 horizontal resolution that 720p has. Removing the 720p option from PS3 settings will then force the PS3 to upscale all games to 1080p. This with some displays will perhaps improve general quality or sharpness of image but will do nothing much really to improve jaggies.

Their have been some comments floating around that the game has graphical moments that are below par on PS3 on a technical standpoint. One of the VVV videos highlights this and maybe more of his videos and comments will shed more light on it.

Personally Im thinking this could be one of those games (depending on playability/handling) that is worth considering upgrading an old PC for.

Now if only PS3 or X360 version supported triple screens I could live with jaggies and lesser sharp visuals.

Will you lot please see the big picture? (and calm down)

You're playing a very similar game on each system with VERY MINOR graphical differences.

I'm sure I'm not the only one here who remembers C64 vs CPC464 (and Spectrum, bless it's ****** little heart) and Atari ST vs Amiga. And more recent, Megadrive vs SNES.

Can we just accept that...oh...i've just lost the will to live...

Good luck everyone!

Tally Ho!

*edit: Really, i'm just pissed off that my G27's bust and I can't get a replacement 'til the end of April. Just enjoy the game, think yourselves lucky and stop whining!

SHAME ON EA AND SMS:tdown:

It's 2011 and they release a racing title on the PS3 in freakin 720p! Are you kidding me EA/SMS... My fears prior to the release have been confirmed today. Once again.., the PS3 version has gotten shafted in terms of the graphics.

The previous Shift1 was supported up to 1080p on the XBox., and of course a sad 720p on the PS3. They've done it again with the latest title.

Does the XBox version support 1080p?

Also., what is up with the constant blurred vision in the helmet cam? It's like you get the speed blur (when it's supposed to happen).., but it almost seems like the speed blur is misfiring and hitting at low speeds too. Juts going slow the rear view mirror and dash get blurry.

dont mean to cause an argument but xbox 360 only supports 1080i :/

same here, im playing on my 720p sony bravia 32" in my room, but i dont know wtf my tv does because its a 720 that shows 1080p display haha :)

It's just EA fulfilling their contractual obligation with Microsoft, it's been in place since EA test rigged the PS3 against the 360 infront of a few guys from Microsoft.

If you think this looks bad (720-1080...I really don't care), then something is wrong with your eyes...

Really? I live in London and I can tell when it's been represented brilliantly, GT5 you could tell you were rushing around Piccadilly Circus, Hayemarket, Trafalgar Square and Leicester Square, but here you can barely and I mean BARELY make out that it is going around Waterloo, theres building in wrong places, some that don't exist and some that are just the same replicated, a very poor representation of a place I call home.

I agree if you think something is wrong with this game get your eyes checked it looks beutiful on my TV oh and I live in America lolol

Jeah 720p graphic in a racing game is just pure crap.. Whene u have a big tv screen u rly see the pixels. But hope i get used to it. Or i should bye it for pc instead:(

Played it all night, looks good on 720p. Never had screen tearing even once like I do in GT5 every time I play it.

Differing opinions can be equally "right" but wrong facts are just universally wrong

Not sure this is the right thread to comment...
Gave it an hour. Physics are bleh, but I suppose I could get used to them. Graphics are garbage. I'd say GT5 and Shift2 are like 'premium' and 'standard'.

Large chunks of pixels on the screen really annoy me.

First: Xbox 360 DOES NOT support native 1080p resolution, it's upscaling. It's a fact.
Second: PS3 version will be (almost) always worse than X360 on cross-platform games, because PS3 is harder to program, and it's on many ways worse than X360. (but PS3 has more potential so exclusives are always has best graphics)
Third: It looks worse on PS3 because using special 2xAA which blurring the textures, while Xbox 360 using its superior 4xAA almost "for free".
Fourth: Upscaled 1080p can't look better than native 720p - it's all up to your (digital) TV which is do upscaling to its native resolution too. (720p -> 1080p)

Yet another fail at setting up a wheel?

I know for sure there are about 800 standard in gt5...
If that's directed at me - then no. I did spend some time setting up my wheel per recommendations here. Not sure why you bring up '800 standards'. I was merely comparing the quality of the graphics. S2's graphics sucks relative to gt5 as much as standard cars do in GT5 relative to premiums.

Well, you make it look just like ranting. No details on the wheel you have and I know that some LCDs and LED TV (the bigger the worse) may have problems.

Most can be adjusted (although not always easy) to display as a tv should or at least the best a tv can do. It took me quite a bit to tune mine including parameters on the service menu.

That being said that pixel exaggeration you talk about seem to be a problem with the setup more than with the game and because i don't recall a single post at GTP with that kind of problem (not like the way you put it)
