I'm going to step up now and say ...

It sets the chip at roughly 100 times more powerful than a single Pentium 4 chip.

That's such a load of BS

If this were true, they wouldn't be putting it in a game console. IBM would be using it in servers.

You're tellin' me that PS3 will run at 250GHz? Yeah right, not even a Sony fanboy like me will believe that! Remember how they said PS2 would be 15 times faster than a P3 450Mhz? Bull****, the PS2 only runs at 294Mhz. If I had a 250Ghz processor, I would use it to calculate points in space or play Quake III at 10000000 fps. :)

I didnt think it was saying that the single "cell" chip in the console is 250Ghz. It sounded to me like if you take advantage of the technology and link together several "cell" chips than processing speeds of 200+ ghz may be possible. I can sorta believe thatbased on how they say it handle calculations and takes unused processing power from other chips that you are connected to.

I think the PS3 will at best will only be two or three times more powerful than the PS2. If it were more powerful than that I would have to experiance it to believe it.

I you look at the article again you will notice that it is not 250GHZ it is in fact 2.5GHZ (note the point ) that is not an impossibility at all for a console..
A bit crazy mind you but possible:D

If these 3 companys want to make such a big prosser for the PS3 and i know it will not just end there with the PS3 then so be it

If they do infact pull it off you won't get any complaints from me

That daisy chain effect with the cell sounds really cool think of the possibilitys with such technology

And if what is said is true and they are going broadband with this then think of how good gaming would be when hooked up to a game server with this technology

But right now it's just a dream back to reality :D

If you look at the article again, it saids 100 times a P4 running at 2.5GHz. 100 x 2500 = 250000 MHz = 250GHz.

Simple math, dude.

This is not surprising as the "CELL" project started last year in mid 2001. this is not that outlandish and it will be true probably, however while i predict that 250Ghz is possible by 2005, I question the fact Sony will tame it for PS3. They hyped PS2 the same way saying it was so much stronger than anything, yet Xbox comes and surpases it's specs in a year. ;) Yet PS2 is still the best. ;)

i am in no way supporting the 250GHz theory, but, if you really look at the past 10 years, processing speed has been rising exponentially. when i bought a computer in late '97, the absolute fastest on i could find was 333MHz. in late '87 it was probably about 30-35MHz, if that. i seriously doubt that there'll be a "cell chip" anytime soon. or ever, for that matter.

Obviously not. It's still work in progress to even see if the idea will work.

But I posted the same thing on a different forum and someone replied with the following pic. They didnt say anything. They just posted the pic. It may be his sig, but who knows. I have no idea what this is (except it looks like a comp. tower):
