My brother just bought one off a friend of his, and the 12GB HDD will not cut it for him.

He knows that he needs a bracket to hold the upgraded HDD (after I told him about it), I've looked around for something suitable for him, but I am overwhelmed by it.

What would be a good bang-for-your-buck HDD for him?

Thank you very much, I'm sure he'll appreciate actual capacity for his PS3. 👍

Here's a cookie for you.

Isn't his existing HDD already on a bracket? I think SONY sells the specialized bracket for PS3s, but the bracket should be a non-issue, you just take the old HDD off the bracket and install the new one in it. :)

Or you could go with an SSD and a downloaded copy of GT6

He isn't really interested in GT6.

I had read that it was needed, but I guess that he can do without one is he doesn't actually need it.

Since the PS3 in question is the 12GB model which is a on board SSD storage you will need one of those brackets or so I have heard.

I did read the Super Slim PS3s require that you buy the bracket of your going to upgrade to a higher capacity HDD.

My Slim did not require this as the HDD sits on one as standard.

I have the 12GB one as well but used the hard drive from my old (bricked) PS3 in the new one with the HDD caddy.

The hdd caddy from the slim model fits the super slim when you take that screw bracket off (the thin piece that's on the corner of the bracket) and used a used gift card under the bracket so it wouldn't hang.

Image quality was because I used my iPod Touch.

The old 120GB PS3 got bricked because my internet was being slow as hell when I was downloading a software update and somehow got into a damn unrecoverable update installation loop. Even Safe Mode couldn't be used as it would just get to the installation screen.

Oh I didn't know the 12 GB PS3s don't have a bracket in them... that sucks. Why would they release a console with such low capacity anyways? there are games alone that need close to that amount of space to install them if not more. Baffles the mind.

Entry Level Console for basic games.

The 12gb has Netflix printed on the box. It is just for streaming mainly and marketed that way. Just a way of getting more devices out. They have a test on youtube that test all the PS3 types against each other and the 12gb version even tho it's using flash memory was very slow on things like deleting game files etc while it should be super fast at everything. I have the 12gb and a regular one and will say the price for the 12gb for a streaming device was pretty good. I use youtube, netflix, and full internet browsing which is the best part.
