I've googled this to no end, and seen completely random mixed opinions on what works and not, does anyone use one of these:

A lot of people say this works, some say it doesn't- http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0015MISAG/?tag=gtplanet-20

Haven't heard anything on this- http://www.ebay.com/itm/HDMI-to-VGA...o-Cable-Cord-For-PC-PS3-HDTV-US-/251359853494

They both apparently have transcoders in them and audio output, just wondered if anyone uses something similar.

I'm using HDMI downstairs on a TV but want to bring the PS3 upstairs to my CRT monitor that has VGA only, does any res from low interlaced to 2048x1536 progressive, as GF keeps nicking the TV :(

You will probably be forced to play in low 480p on a CRT monitor. The Ps3 does not have a video scaling chip and the monitor you are speaking of sounds like a 4:3 aspect ratio. The ps3 only supports 480p (4:3), 720p (16:9 widescreen) 1080i and 1080p at 16:9. You could perhaps force 720p or 1080p but the picture will look odd and elongated from forcing 16:9 in to a 4:3 screen. Get a cheap HDMI flat panel on craigslist or the like. Very cheap these days. Pawn shops in the UK ? I would try one of those as well if you can. IT will look very ugly in 480p.

Check this video here; it shows you how to connect and get a signal using one of those cables (the one from Amazon). I think you'll find it most-helpful~ 👍

Seeing at it's a CRT, I believe the highest resolution you'll be able to display with your PS3 will be 480P.

The CRT I have can display any HD res, I would just have to manually adjust it so it has letterbox borders (basically unstretch it), same as when I had an Xbox 360 and used a 4:3 LCD it just added black borders. Hope one of these cables works I'm, gona try that Amazon one.

Would be cool because my monitor has 2 VGA slots in the back and a button on the front to quickly switch between outputs, so I can have the PS3 and PC basically at the same time :)

What is the make and model of your TV?

Compaq P1220

Go to this site or one like it. http://www.svideo.com/hdtvr8500.html
This might be just what you need: http://www.svideo.com/hdmi2vga.html
Get the VGA/SVGA to Component adapter you like. Then have a PS3 Component AV Cable.
Use the adapter to connect your monitor to the PS3 Component Video out jacks.
Those jacks will be male. So your adapter has to have female jacks.👍

The specs for your monitor;

interface: VGA (HD-15) - Dot pitch: 0.24 mm - Aspect ratio: 4:3

Tell me you may not be able to get more than 720p with a 4:3 view. But that's not so bad. Especially with GT6.
Hope this helps:cool:
