I got gt6 for Christmas and it worked fine until about a year when the ps3 couldn't regonise the disc
I then bought a new disc which lasted about 3 months.
After that I bought another gt6 which lasted about a week!!
I try all my other games and all work fine but most games usually freeze during gameplay. I also noticed that all the broken discs have a wave like pattern.
PLS HELP

It happens with other games? If not, its your GT6 disk that might be dirty or screwed up. I strongly advice to never ever touch the disk from the readable side (grey) and always keep it on the case.

Dirty disks might make your bluray reader stop working aswell.

Sounds like you need to clean the ps3 lens, easy job to do with the latest ps3, the old fat ps3s require you to remove and open the disc drive to get at it.. search youtube for a video.
Just so you know, my disc also has the wavy pattern and it works perfect.

The GT6 disc is dual layer. I had a similar problem with someone's PS3. I don't know what he did, but the problem went away. Most (?) games are only single layer which is why GT6 disks can have issues. Cleaning, sounds like a good starting point.

Oh no wonder why my PS3 ticks when trying to start GT6 on occasion!

You could try cleaning the laser, but I'd just go ahead and buy a new one. Cleaning it will work for a week or two and then it'll really be dead.

The Wavy patern may be that your disc have delaminated. Have you left them in the sun or have they been overheated???

I'll give it a go i'll tell you how it turns out.

All my other games work fine its just gt6 that fails to start. Cleaning the disc is a good idea but it doesn't explain why 3 different gt6 discs all failed in similar ways

As I said earlier, unlike most disks, GT6 is dual-layer. PS3's can sometimes have problems accessing that second layer and so won't recognize the GT6 disk. Other single-layer disks will still work fine.

My PS3 is making the same ticking noise with Read Dead Redemption but will load the game eventually. If I try to load GT6, it just ticks & ticks until it goes silent :irked: :banghead:
It's going in for surgery tomorrow morning to hopefully fix the problem. If it doesn't pull through, neither will the surgeon :mischievous:

Oh yeah, go Lowndesy  :) 👍

Edit. This is after trying a laser clean...and with a wavey disc.

Mine does the same tick tick but i have a little tip to make it work every time :) when you turn the ps3 on and its trying to read the disc just pick up the ps3 then hold the ps3 with the disc slot facing upwards (wires out the back pointing to the floor) and it reads no problem, once it reads the disc you can just put the ps3 back down again. Mine been doing this for months now but this tip saved me buying a new ps3. Try it it works. There is also a vid on youtube explaining this better.

Now, I'm confused! I brought home a PS3 to update to the latest GT6 at the weekend. My day of release GT6 disk is not recognized, nor my Limited Edition disk. Today I borrowed the GT6 disk (bought used by me last year) that goes with the borrowed PS3, and that works fine! I wonder if later pressings of the game are a different layout...

If your GT6 disks are dirty, or scratched sell it or them to Cex. They don't even check the disks, might get ya some money to buy a new one if you really need the money. Or like other people said in here, it might be the disk tray not the game. Try taking it into a store, or call up Sony or something to see if there is anything they can do.

what model number is your ps3? sometimes my gt6 wont start, i have to keep putting the game in and out until it recognizes GT6. then i start and it says error code xxxxx failed to start disc operation. so i just keep pressing play and the back button until it works. the time it can take to start the game would be anywhere from 1st try to 2.5 hours to start it up haha.

GUYS THIS WORKS EVERY TIME.

I found my problem wasn't dual layer related! There are two UK versions of the game. Put the wrong one in the PS3 and you get an error as it doesn't recognize the disk.
