hey, i need some advise.. my ps3 ylod afew days ago, and when it started acting up first turning itself off on its own and all that, i copied afew of my save files to usb memory stick,
the next day it died fully,

and what i want to know is, will i be able to use my gt5 backup save on my new ps3 ????
i remember the save file for gt5 used to be copy protected, but they lifted that so people could back up there saves,

will the backup work on a new ps3 with my original account ?

Yes as long as you saved it correctly.Make sure you sign into the same account.
You can always take the HD out of the old one and buy a transfer case for 10 bucks that will hold the old HD and use it as a a back up if the old HD is not toast.Transfer the files off the old HD to the new PS3 or your PC or Mac.

cheers dude, thats what i wanted to hear. was afraid the saves might of been locked to the actual console, read some claims like that in a forum months ago,

yeah, i have them backed up properly with fat32 stick, and copied the file over to my pc for storage untill i pick up a slim tomorrow,

i should install the game n all the updates too, to make sure it reads my save since copy protection was removed through an update ?

cheers

Just so you know, your old PS3 hard drive is not readable by a Windows/Mac/Linux system, or as an external hard drive on a new PS3 as pulled out of the old PS3 (I know from experience.) It is encrypted to the PS3 hardware that first formats it. Luckily you were able to save the GT5 save off to a USB drive so, like was said, as long as you are able to use the same account on your new PS3, it will work.

True. Just got a new ps3 slim(my fat ps3 YLOD,too, did a quickfix then died again after 3 weeks) and tried swapping hdd because my fat ps3 has 320gb. Won't work. What I did was put the original hdd for the slim, did a utitlity back-up to a flashdrive, put back the 320gb and read the save, the slim formatted my 320gb and it's all good. Of course, I have my gt5 data saved on another flashdrive.
