I have a slim and a yellowish light beside my green light blinks when the ps3 is working. Should I be scared???

Do not know if serious but I'll answer anyway.

That light blinks when the PS3 is reading the HDD.

EDIT: Someone beat me to it...

I never had the YLOD. I turned on my old phatty 120gb and put in a DVD disc one day. It started to play for about 14 minutes and then it just shut off. I'd turn it back on and I'd get it to spin for about 1 second then I would hear a loud "smack" like something had jumped in front of the spinning deck and kept it from spinning. Almost like it hit a brick wall from inside, I'd hear 3 quick beeps from the console and it would then proceed to shut off, back to Red Light. Have no idea what happened and Sony never did anything to fix it. I sent it in to Sony and I never got it back. I tried contacting them, and they always said "We're working on it". Not only did I lost all my data I also lost my Beerfest DVD!

I wish I had the YLOD cause then I could have fixed it to at least get stuff transferred and could have gotten out my dang movie!

There is a trick to get the disc out, when this happens its all over YouTube. From what you described i don't see any reason you should lose game data, all you had to do is back it up before you sent your system in for repairs. The XMB will still function if your Blu-Ray drive craps out. Unless of course you did have YLOD:

I couldn't described it better myself. :D

Problem was that the PS3 would start to read the disc that was in the drive the moment the console was turned on. So the drive would attempt to spin and then BAM, it would beep and turn off again.

I went and bought a 250 slim a few months later.

Mine broke while playing CoD MW. It was on and the one second, it just turned off. I tried to turn it back on, and right as the XMB loaded it died again, never to be turned back on. Luckily GT5 hadnt come out yet...
