Complaints of PlayStation 5 coil whine are not going away, as the system arrives in more homes and continues to be put through its paces. The issue is common with high-end graphics cards, so it’s not wildly surprising that Sony’s next-gen console is suffering from it – although it’s worth stressing that not everyone is experiencing it, and depending on the extent of the problem, you may not even hear it unless your ear is next to the hardware.

If anyone has heard or links to issues lets hear them .

My PS5 has had the coil whine from the moment I first booted a game on it, my ears are super sensitive to things like this so I hear it all the time when there's no audio to cover it up. I'm glad it's not just me hearing it though, I thought my console was faulty at first.

What exactly is the coil 'whine' I haven't heard any sound of it on my PS5 digital edition which I finally took delivery of yesterday but it's super quiet and I didn't hear any noise from it and it was on all evening.

I have no complaints so far but I am confused by something, when I sign out of my PSN profile on the main user screen a box flashes to say Downloads/Uploads of xx game, is this it doing a cloud save of the game saves and if so is there a way to turn off Auto Upload?

I'm not even sure it is coil whine, it sounds different to what you usually hear from a GPU. It sounds like this:

It changes pitch and volume as you move the camera around in-game

Thanks! Have definitely not experienced that SO far but will keep an eye out for it.

I can hear it very clearly when sitting about 5 feet away from my console if I'm playing a game with quiet bits in it. Days Gone, for example.

Don't investigate any further! The last thing you want is to try and key your ears in to discover a sound you have not noticed before and then be cursed forever to hear that sound. It's like saying to someone in the middle of the night "can you hear that dripping tap"......"er well no I hadn't but I bloody can now!" ;-)

Fair enough!

It is only my second day with the machine and shall just keep playing as I would normally, always things to do in the gaming world!

I've been having green screen issue when going into rest mode with Spider-Man: MM running. Basically green screen appears as the console is supposed to go into rest mode and then it just force shuts itself. Next time you boot up, it complains that you've not powered down properly. Even if game's in the background, it still happens. I'll try to kill it before putting PS5 into rest mode, hopefully that helps. So far seems like the issue is localized to that one game. I hope it's some kind of a software issue and not hardware.

Maybe my Series S is too quiet! I really can't hear any fan noise and since the top of the console do gets hot (like the original Xbox One) I wonder if I'm close to a meltdown or is just normal.

XsX is a low power version of an already power efficient RDNA2 architecture. It is no doubt running very cool.

So encountered my first error with the PS5 this evening which seems completely random.

Was sending messages to a group of friends on a message/party chat we formed after the party system update on PS4 and I was sending picture messages no problem captured on the PS5 but now when I go to attach the image it gets to 1 second remaining and then an error message CE110202-4 pops up and the info is 'An Error has occurred'

Anyone have any idea? My initial thoughts are that maybe I uploaded too much date in one session or there is a limit on amount of message attachments on PS5?

Can't find anything on the web about this one but would like to figure it out as were playing Genshin Impact and the picture messages are pretty essential for us helping each other find stuff if were not in a session together.

for a work around for now , would your party be able to take a picture on a phone and upload using the new playstation app ?

From the ACC thread: An issue I had when trying to install an update.
Anyone else with a PS5 getting an error code (CE-107857-8) and unable to install the update?

Edit: I've tried restoring licenses and had the same result, so onto rebuilding the data base as per https://www.psu.com/news/guide-ps5-error-code-ce-107857-8-how-to-fix-ps5-download-queue-error/

Edit 2: And now it's completely inaccessible from my hard drive and the PS Store. It shows up in my library as installed but it's greyed out :banghead:

Edit 3:None of the above worked but after ejecting the hard drive I was able to put a fresh ACC install onto my PS5. When I re-attached the hard drive I was prompted with a message to delete one copy. Faulty hard drive copy was deleted and I could then transfer the new game data to the hard drive. Now everything is working... happy days :D
Just to add to this, I had a very similar issue with the first AC but I haven't tried to reinstall it yet.

Friends can but unfortunately for me I am still on 'outdated' technology and my phone does not have internet at all hence it's only a problem for myself at the moment.#

EDIT: Apparently this might have just been a PSN issue last night, will test later!

I can see this being a complaint down the road.

It seems it is less work to get 120 fps on the new xbox than the ps5 .

https://www.videogameschronicle.com...me-to-add-120fps-support-to-xbox-but-not-ps5/

"As reported by our network partners at Eurogamer, enabling 120fps on PS5 requires a full native port, while Microsoft allows the feature to be added via a backwards compatibility patch.

This is why other games such as Call of Duty: Warzone and Rocket League have also recently added 120fps modes to their Xbox Series X versions, but not PlayStation 5."

Yes for some reason Sony have limited P5 boost to 60fps.

https://www.techradar.com/news/cert...due-to-differing-cooling-fans-report-suggests.

"Is your PS5 noisier than you were expecting? Your console may have a cooling fan of lesser quality inside it, a new report suggests.

French tech website Les Numériques has revealed that not all PlayStation 5 units are created equal, after the outlet noticed a difference in the noise exhibited by the review unit Sony provided them and a second unit purchased through a traditional retail channel."

A buddy just bought a ps5 , i will as him if he thinks his is loud fan or not .

It's like the fat PS3 all over again, Sony had two different fans, a 19 blade one and a 15 blade one that performed worse. People started swapping them out. Can't believe they would use two different fan suppliers again, especially one that's noticeably poorer in quality than the other.

So I think I've found one little complaint about the PS5 which I hope will be addressed or Sony add us some 'feedback' on the new OS.

When using the PS5 to capture video it is great that they kept the same as PS4 but one thing i have noticed is that when you are recording if the video reaching 59:59 it does not 'reset' (i.e start a new video) it just keeps recording which is fine but it would ne 'nicer' if it did like PS4 and that when you hit the full hour recording it starts a new one as this makes hard work for editing!

You can counter this by start new video button but the problem (have to check if it shows this on a publish video) is the PS5 shows a video recording counter in the top centre of the screen which obscures some information in certain games so an option to 'hide' or not have this display would be nice.

I'll add some footage to this post after my work so you can see, they are minor issues but I don't think it looks right publishing this on Youtube etc when it has recording counter always shown!

My PS4 controller suffers from this. I was hoping when i do migrate to a PS5 the PS4 games where this is a real issue would be better to play on the new system/controller. I guess this may not necessarily be the case :irked:

Well I have the PS5 and I haven't seen any 'stick drift' so far so I think it is 'improved' compared to previous games.

It used to be a major problem/frustration for me when playing GT Sport and GTA Online but now on PS5 the drift is no longer an issue so I keep over aiming my targets which can be quite 'amusing' when I get 'pistol whipped/run over by NPC's.

What's up with the surreal, creepy and annoying background music on the PS5? Same garbage that was on the PS4. I couldnt disable it soon enough.
