I've commented this in response to a few people and figured it was worth sharing in a more visible way as seemingly not many people know it.
If you are using the DualSense controller without headphones then mute it each time you play (or set it to mute as default) because the system limits the haptic feedback to prevent mic interference.
If you turn the mic off then the strength of the haptics increases and it feels great. It also gives you a really easy way to toggle strength of feedback on the fly (for when you're driving around Tokyo Expressway...! )
Don't know who needed to know this, but give it a whirl in a Gr.3 race car and feel the satisfying CLUNK at full strength when you shift gear!
