Anonymous make no sense to me. They claim they're fighting for Sony's customers, but to be fair, in a way, so were Sony by trying to persecute the hackers. If the PS3 becomes what the PSP did (i.e. hacked wide open and unprofitable to basically any software developer/publisher), software wouldn't be made for it, then my £250 Slim would be rendered useless by the selfish actions of people who don't want to pay money for a product, as if there's something inherently wrong with wanting money in return for hard work. Obviously, by going after the hackers Sony are working for their own agenda, but what's wrong with that? As their customers it is in our best interests for them to remain profitable, what would we really gain if the PS3 was as hacked as the PSP was?
If Anonymous really, really cared about Sony's customers, they'd be hacking the hackers and doing everything they could to stop piracy, but instead they were hacking the Playstation Network to stop Sony's customers (those they're fighting for) from enjoying their expensive purchases to the fullest extent.
They are just a disorganised bunch of children who get a kick out of 'sticking it to the man', showing off about what they can do with a computer and trying to intimidate everyone. You know how after 9/11 all these counterterrorism laws were brought in and surveillance increased to an almost scary level? It's groups like Anonymous who will bring about the same thing in the cyber world...
Rant over, sorry about that.
