So... my stock PSU is an ASUS/No name 500w PSU and wanted to simply swap out for a Corsair CX500M. If you look at the total system Watts at the top its under 400 yet Nvidia recommend at least 600W PSU.

I wont be going SLI so having extra room for a second 770 isnt an issue so would the Corsair 500W do the trick or should I go for a 600?

Cheers guys

It's good to have some overhead, generally speaking a higher wattage PSU will be more efficient at the same load as a lower wattage one - up to a point - but I don't think you need an overhead of more than 200W... I'm not as experienced as @DQuaN or some others around here but I think you'd be ok with the CX500M. But what do I know, my system can't be more than 500, 600W and I've got an 850W PSU!

I came across this the other day which is pretty handy, although I don't know how accurate it is. Putting your build in to it and assuming one hard drive, it will require a minimum 350 and recommended 400. 500 should do the trick if you're not going to add any more to it.

Do you plan to overclock?

With those specs I would go for at least a 650W. You also may want to consider that if you ever decide to add a second graphics card, the 500W PSU won't cut it.

Thanks for the reply guys. The PC I have is an ASUS ROG 8480 with built in 2 stoge OC funtion via a button on the case. I dont plan to go SLI and I am already running BF4 and iRacing etc on triple screens, 5760x1080 and quite surprised how good it is on the GTX650. The 770 wil give me the option to crank up the graphics a bit but I wont be going mad.

I have got my eye on a couple of CX500s on Ebay but didnt want to bite the bullet if I need more. The only other thing I plan to add is a 128gb SSD for Windows and a couple of games with general files on standard HDD.

So....500 or 600?

You're not leaving yourself much overhead but there's no reason it wouldn't work. How many hard drives do you have and are you planning on overclocking?

Pc already overclocks via built in system and will only be adding one SSD in the future.

Now... I took the plunge and ordered the GTX770 and a Corsair CX600 from Dabs as they were the cheapest, delivery is another story though.

I ordered the CX600 in a rush as I was getting close to next day delivery cut off and thought I had got the CX600M, now reading the reviews of the PSU I have read so many horror reviews on the non modular model and was going to send it back but...

I ordered from Dabs and have also seen nightmare reviews regarding returns etc so do I just keep the CX600 and see how things go and return if it goes pop or do I send it straight back and get a CX600M?

Anyone here got a standard CX600?

I don't think there's much difference between them apart from one being modular. They both have mostly the same internals.

That said, modular is always better for cable management.

Thanks for the reply,

I bit the bullet and got a 600M from Maplin along with some AF120s, quiet version. Standard 600 is going straight back. Just need the 770 to turn up now and really start getting to work with it all.

I am running Fan Xpert 2 with the 120s and so far keeping well below 50 degrees in the case, be interesting to see how much difference there will be with the 770 installed also. Then I will give it a couple of months and get the SSD, from there I dont think much else will need doing performance wise.

A few case mods perhaps but don't want to go too extreme because I love the look of the standard case, especially with the OC lighting feature.
