I had great hopes for the forum I must admit. I missed out on the first couple of days being out of town but I dug right in when I got back and asked what I thought were insightful and polite questions relevant to the future of the series. One of them made the top ten and I was really looking forward to the answer. When detractors came around after only 2 or 3 weeks asking why questions weren't answered I cautioned patience and to let it run for a few weeks to build momentum. I thought the Reddit session and the Blog was a good start and it would continue from there.
I think it's a missed opportunity on PD's part to patch things up with the diehard fans who are feeling left out. Many PC devs are in constant contact with the fans and it is refreshing to see. No you don't get everything you want, that's not the purpose of communication, but to know that developers are listening and working on things that are important to the community, to me enhances the long term playability of a game. We are investing valuable free time here that could be invested in any game, and many people are unwilling to invest time into something that they are uncertain will continue to develop. The Q&A could have helped tremendously with all of that.
In a day and age when communication is both global and instantaneous with the push of a few buttons on a device in your pocket, there is simply no excuse for this. PD remains steadfastly stuck in 1999 while the rest of the world adopts new communication technology on the fly. I wish them the best of luck with this approach, clearly some diehard fans still have faith. If GT7 is good enough I suppose it won't matter much.
