Qualifing

When you're racing in a championship series there's the "Practice" option, that's qualifying in disguise. In single races you're unfortunately destined to start from the back of the grid.

And when you're in the practice session of a championship series race, you're currently qualified position is at the top of the screen.

Um, I've been know to set a lap time and exit practice before the other cars cross the line. Pole!!!!! Just a timesaving measure, doesn't help if you're not truly fast enough to race the AI cars.

How do I activate it in GT4.I hate always starting in 6th place

Interesting "name" you have there. What do the dates stand for?

Remember this also: when you're qualifying, sometimes if you find yourself 2 seconds or so ahead of the Ai during qualifying, the race itself will still wind up being intense because the Ai drives harder during races than it does during qualifying. Which is kind of annoying to me, but whatever.

Yes the AI tends to sandbag in practice so when you think, ' I've got plenty of speed', you tend to have that view readjusted on the first couple of laps. :(

Funny thing was, in GT3 it was different. If you qualified within a half second of the fastest Ai car, you would generally find yourself with a close race. The Ai didn't drive any harder than they did from qualifying to the race itself. But in GT4 perhaps the adaptive system (which is what makes Ai and B-spec cars drive better as they learn the track) makes races harder than qualifying.

A rule of thumb is that if you don't take pole by five seconds in qualifying, you're not going to win. To get a better idea of the true pace of the AI, run more than the out-lap and flying lap that is the minimum for qualifying.

I've noticed that if you contine running laps in practice mode, the AI tightens their time down about 1-1.5 seconds per lap up until about 5 laps. It can be pretty difficult to maintain that first place position you got after the first lap if you do 5 laps.
