Qualifying help please!

Hey guys i'm trying to beat the Nurburgring for a one make race (mercedes)...But the thing is i have a fully modded E55 AMG and the SLR McLaren always starts first, i can get to second fine, but he just pulls away in first...How do i go about qualifying better? (By the way i am using B-Spec mode).

In a single race you cannot qualify, that option is only available in Championship series races, such as 1000 miles!, GT World Championship and Japan Championship.

There is no need to race the lineup in which the SLR McLaren starts first though, simply exit the race before you start (use triangle or square button to back out, or the green & white icon on the righthand side) and then re-enter the same race again. Now you'll have a different AI lineup where the SLR McLaren isn't in 1st place. You do not lose any gamedays if you exit before beginning the race, and it is possible to enter/exit in this way repeatedly until you find a lineup where the SLR McLaren starts in 5th place (which should be an easy race for you to win in A-spec ;)) or a field where the AI lineup doesn't feature the SLR McLaren at all, in which case a fully modified AMG E55 becomes overkill.

If you get out of the habit, early on, of relying on vastly overtuned cars and B-spec to help you out of tricky situations, and learn to drive them yourself and exploit the weaknesses of the AI on twisty tracks, you'll find your success rate and enjoyment of the game is improved. 👍

I wanted to add that B-spec drivers aren't always faster than we are. 💡 I'm finding that if I do a race A-spec, I'll usually have to add serious power to a B-spec driver when it does the same race--assuming it's a race in which Bob has to start from 6th place.

Early on in my GT4 career I used to qualify in a championship series, then B-spec the race. The idea was to put up a faster single lap time than he would get in the race. Eventually my times were consistently faster, at which point I figured I had finally learned something about driving.

See I did this for awhile, too, whenever I had a driver who didn't want to do a particular race. I would occasionally qualify, then let "Bob" do the race. Problem with this was I found I was doing this in an effort to save time; and also to let Bob get a shot at some points (among other reasons). But in a 2-lap race, I'd really be doing 4 laps since 2 qualifying laps + 2 race laps = 4. :grumpy: So now I just let Bob start from 6th and try to plan ahead so that he'll win. :)

Turns out if you let a b-spec driver start from 6th instead of 1st, Bob'll get more battle points 👍 So now I either

1. qualify and do the race myself
2. don't qualify and start from 6th--doing the race myself.
3. don't qualify and let Bob handle things. 💡

When I was doing this my B-spec driver was already at 10000/100/100/100. I was doing it to gauge my own progress.

Cool, that's awesome. I'm not so far in the game yet so my best Bob (out of 4) is at 3400-something/50/41/38
