Question about component cable splitter

Does using a component cable splitter for two consoles work on an HDTV? And if it does, is it whichever console you turn on first is activated on that video channel?

No, i don't think it works that way. I'm sure these are one-way signal splitters.

That will split the single signal to two devices, not send two signals to one device.

What you want is something more like this.
Using something like you were showing is not a good way to merge two channels into one. It's highly unadvisable to push a signal into another video out source, which that would do.
