Question about convertibles in GT4....

first of all: hello, gran turismo community :)

second: i hope this thread fits here, seemed the most likely place to post it.

now, i just spent the last few hours trying different things, searching through half the entries of GT4 in google and searching through almost all of this forum, yet i'm back where i started (maybe i'm blind? i bet there's an easy answer...damn... :D ). so i registered just now and try my luck:

my problem is, a while ago, through pure coincidence, i must have hit a button or a combination of buttons in a menu of the game, so that i suddenly had the roof of my sl65 up in the race and it stayed on as i went into free roam on the 'ring, but it was down again, as i switched the game on again the next day. now i've tried pretty much everything i could think of and it's just not possible to get the roof back up :(

so, the simple question would be: does anyone know anything about this? is it even possible, that it is randomized, when the roof is on? that would be strange though, since i've never had it up again.

Welcome to GTP.

For processing capabilities, unless the race is a 1-on-1, the roof is always up, and unless it's in arcade mode (where you get the option of roof up or down), the roof is always down in time trial, or any race where you aren't racing AI opponents (or are on the track by yourself).
Some car are the exception (The TVR V8S roof is always up regardless).

Yeah, basically if you're driving on a track by yourself, your top will be down. But if there's Ai present, it goes up because the PS2 isn't able to officiate the number of commands a top-down drive requires since it's also busy driving 1 to 5 other Ai cars. :guilty::indiff:

The Suzuki GSR-X4 is an exception to the processing problem. It isn't a convertible but, it doesn't have a roof. So you always see the driver moving in races.

Oh, and welcome to GTPlanet.

Same with the AC and Shelby Cobras.
And, of course, those 1 hp cars from the early 1900's. :sly:

Do the GSX-R4, Cobras, and Caterham allow you to race against a pack of AI opponents? I don't remember. I think the inability to race the Benz Patent Motor Wagen or Daimler Motor Carriage against other cars has more to do with the PS2's limited processing power than some arbitrary restriction.

I don't even know how you COULD race the fossil cars. They usually stall on the slightest uphill grade. I've only tried them a couple of times, but I couldn't get the darned thing all the way around the track. Good thing, too. It would take all day.
It would be hilarious if you could tune them. :dopey:

For that matter, I couldn't get the model T all the way around El Capitan, either.
