question about tires

hi..Im very much still a newbie to GT3 and I have a question for you vets. Im only about 5% through with the game and am usually using my souped up mustang with 554HP.
I want to know when or if you ever have to change your tires before you get to the endurance races. Theres no mention of it in the instructions and I see a Pit but dont know if I ever need to use it or what. I cant find a way to look at how worn your tires are so I dont know if I need new ones or whatever, and when I go to the tune up shop and look at tires all it tells me is that Ive already purchased sport tires. someone help me out please

On endurance races you need to pit in probably every 15-20 miles. If you're doing the Super Speedway or Test Track Endurance race, you can actually pull faster lap times by not pitting in, and slamming tinto the turns( I promise this is true, I read it in TIPS & TRICKS)

On endurance races you can see how worn your tires are by the little gauge thing in the lower left hand of your screen. The fresh tires are blue, and once they get worn out real bad they turn bright red.

Well, you don't have to worry about tire wear unless you are doing endurance races, BUT if you're just doing normal racing in series and stuff you should get SUPER SOFT tires. They help grip a lot better than any other tire.

thanks for the tip. I was looking at those but they were more expensive than I could afford at the time...I was saving up for a viper. plus i saw their life is the shortest, which i guess doesnt matter except in endurance.
anyways, I have enough to get the viper now but I saved the game before I bought it...then bought it to try it out and it didnt accelerate near as fast as the mustang cobra I have thats souped up to about 554 hp.
what do you suggest I do with my 75 grand if I dont go with the viper after all?

this board is pretty cool b/c Im just starting out on this game and anytime I get stuck on something I can turn to you pros. pretty sweet deal.

Hmmm, depends what you want to do with the car you spend the 75k on...

Like, do you want a car that corners good, or just plain out hauls ass?

well...Ive found that a car that hauls ass is more important because you can kinda take over the cornering aspect on your own and make up the ground if your car is badass enough. Having a good handling car with no power doesnt seem to matter as much because if youre on the straightaway and cant make up any ground then youre screwed at the end of most races.
here's my question: I cant really get in a lot of the beginner races because like..I have no 4wd car and no FF drive car....and like..no benz or any of those cars for the specialty races..so what do I do...move up to amateur and win some cars and then come back and do the other beginner races? I guess I need to go ahead and get my A license.

so basically two questions for you
a) whats the best (power/speed wise) car I can score for around 75k.
b) do I need to head on up to amateur and come back and do the other beginner races I have no car for...or buy those type cars and finish out beginner before I move up.

I'll have to PM you my answer later, if that's okay with you. I'll do it after JACKASS(show on MTV) goes off.

Just a correction, you need to worry about your tires on most of the races in amature and up. Whenever you see the tire guages in the bottom left...you have tire ware, if you dont see them, you are fine. I usually buy mediums and super softs. For the endurance races, at least the super speedway and test track, use the super slicks.  If you try using the super softs on any track with tire ware, you prawly wont make it 2 laps.

Sorry to say this but there is a bit of an inacuracy in some peoples posts about tire wear. There are some races other than the endurance races that have tire wear in them. So far as I have experienced, if there are 5 or more laps in a race there will be tire wear. I could be wrong since I am not done with the game yet but that has been my experience thus far. Also, the best thing to do is to find a racing tire that fits your racing style in the races with tire wear. If you are agressive in your driving, get harder tires that last longer. If you are a conservative driver, user softer but not to soft as the tires will still wear down regardless. The best way to guage your driving habits is to see how many laps it takes for your tires to turn red. The best time to pit in my opinion is when they start turning orange. To tell what your tire wear is look down to the lower left hand corner of the screen and you will see 4 indicators aranged in a tire pattern. Keep your eye on it. Also, keep in mind that if your tire wear is uneven, you may need to adjust your settings. They should all wear down evenly.

I hope that helps.

:smilewink:

Do the SUper Soft Tires wear oput fast or r they good for awhile?  I mean just regular racing.  Not endurance or anything.  And when they do wear out I have to but another set of 75 K tires?

You never have to buy a new set. If you're doing a race that doesn't have tire wear, I higly suggest Super Softs.

In races that do not have tire wear, go with the super softs. In races with tire wear go with something in the medium range or harder depending on your racing style.
