I plan on adding a 2nd SSD to my PS5 when I get my bonus in a couple of months. I have been looking online and I have found a few options so my question is those who have updated their PS5 how has it worked out for you. Any issues like excessive heat or does run slower than the native SSD? Right now I have about 250Gb left but once I get GT7 and update ACC I will probably have about 100 gb left. So I am going to have get more space.

Only did it last week, but so far it runs just the same as the standard one does. No issues at all. Just make sure you get a properly supported one (one that's fast enough)

By chance what did you get? I have been looking at the Samsung, WD and Patriot SSDs. I also see Crucial has a line of PS5 SSDs as well.

I bought the WD_BLACK SN850 1TB SSD and this heatsink. It has an advertised speed of up to 7000 MB/s, I actually get just over 6500 MB/s according to the PS5, which is faster than the original built-in storage. To be honest I don't really notice any big difference between the speed of the two, maybe the WD is slightly faster but we're talking maybe a second here and there.

I've not had any problems with the heat. Make sure you install a compatible heatsink that will fit into the bay on the PS5. Some drives have a preinstalled heatsink but these are often way more expensive than the DIY route. I think when I bought mine it was an extra £100 for the heatsink WD drive - either that or pay £10 or so and do it myself in about five minutes, not a hard choice!

This page has the max dimensions for the heatsink, expand the part that says "M.2 SSD requirements for PS5 consoles":
