Hi Peeps,

Just a quick question for a colleague at work. I dont personally drive (I was going to some years ago but then could never be bothered).

Anyway, she has had an issue with her '57 plate Clio 3 (ripcurle). The "Low Battery" "Battery Light" & "Stop Light" come on after about 15 minutes of driving and then beeps at her.

She has had a new battery and altinator over the last 12 and they are fine. The battery is showing charging fine at 14.5v.

She's been quoted £800 for the ECU to be re-done. My gutt was this was too much cost wise? Can't someone with the correct software and cables just clear the error?

Any advice from you guys would be much appreciated.

Cheers.

Was the battery and alternator tested when the battery light was on?

I don't think a bad ECU will cause the battery light to come on.
She should bring the car to another shop and get a 2nd opinion on it.

As far as we know when she took it in the ligh was on etc. He hs aparently seen the light on and tested too. Thanks for the reply.

1.5dCi by any chance? These Clios will eat their ECUs at a moment's notice, and yes, that'll be the dealership price. It was £700 ten years ago.

thanks for the reply,

Just checked with her and its a 1.2 petrol 8V. Not sure if this makes much of a difference as I dont know much about this sort of thing.
