As competitors and voters....

If a user votes for his own picture should his/her entry be disqualified?

It's a private poll so be honest.

IMO If you vote for yourself, then it should not be counted.
If this is too hard to achieve for the poll counters, then I would vote for yes.

That poll is incomplete! I don't see where I can vote for myself  :P

It's kind of a silly question now. I mean... a rule is a rule, and obviously it would be pointless without a consequence in case of violation. So I voted yes.
Although if the violator wasn't aware of the rule, it's ok with me if that person is just warned (just notified to READ THE RULES), and have this person comply with the rules (that means deducting that 1 vote from the score, and having to vote 'properly'), IF this is possible.

Or perhaps do you mean to ask people's opinion on the ethics of the rule itself? Because that's another question...

come on, i suck and i would never vote for myself, I couldn't live with knowing that even if my picture sucks, its got that little edge on the competition because of my own vote. I think that people who vote for themselves should be disqualified and banned from the next competition.

I would say just disqualify that person's vote, not their entry. Rules do need to be enforced, but not with draconian measures - after all were all here to have fun :)

perhaps Dori-sans's old "Hall of Idiocy" thread needs to be resurrected ;)

i think that if a certain person votes for him or herself then they arnt worht the touble of removing the pic, people will know who they are and they wont get the respect from other users, personally the thought of people knowing about it detures most people as they dont want to be seen as an ar*ehole, but sometimes it only takes a sore looser to do such an act.

personally i dont really care, if they win by voting for themselfs then its a very hollow victory indeed, if you win from people actually likeing your pic, thats the reward. 👍

As am I. It's usually only the newcomers anyways that don't know that self-voting is looked down upon so heavily. So I would say cut them some slack and they probably will not ever do it again!

Indeed, just make discount the vote, don't remove the whole picture. Sometimes you see your pic and go "sweet!" and automatically vote for yourself without even thinking. I never did, but I could see it happening :D It'd suck to completely screw yourself just for getting a little overexcited :)

ok,ok, maybe i was a little too tough, but we can't just trust them not to do it again, some kind of warning has too be issued, GT4rallycomp could send them a PM stating that self-voting is not a respected thing to do. I'll have to lay off the terminator movies before i express my opinion again.

As far as the regular PMC comp goes, if anyone does repeatedly vote for themselves or otherwise continue to breach the rules, I will issue a warning. Three warnings will result in disqualification, but I shouldn't think we'll have to go that far - at least I hope not.

As Charger said, it is usually people new to the comps who, in their excitement, forget to read the rules. We don't want to discourage anyone on their first go - there's a lot of youngsters and other people for whom English is not their first language - so I'm happy to give them the benefit of the doubt on their first mistake.

But for those who should know better, a mention in the "hall of Idiocy" thread should be enough punishment :sly:
