I have been checking all my Best Motoring videos which featured battles or time attacks on the Fuji track (1998/5, 1999/6, 2001/5 & 2003/11) in order to get some lap time references for GT4P. This is what I found :

Ferrari 360 F1 1.47.520 (243.60km/h)

Several of these lap times correspond to cars from GT4P, so we can compare our "virtual" times with real ones. As all cars were on STREET tires, we should also use STREET tires on GT4P to get comparable times.

Let´s see how everyone here does against the Best Motoring pro drivers!! In Gt4P it is not that hard to get better times than the real ones. As mentioned on other threads, maybe it has something to do with the risk and consecuences of crashing a real car vs. no risk at all in GT4...

Its quite interesting to see the real world lap times.
I believe Polyphony were on site at the race tracks with a tape measure, trying to make them identical to the virtual track.

I've posted a clean 1:47.554 in the NSX Type S Zero with street tyres at db.granturismo.de which is comparable to the times above:)

Although Arwin has done a 1:43.992!

You can't really compare because of the risk you mention, (also the physical forces and the vibration don't help) I use to ride my CBR pretty quick, but when it came to braking, there was no way I'd take it to the edge! You can't afford to have the front end skid even a little bit, so I'd always brake with a bit in reserve...on a virtual bike or car, there are no consequences.

(They say u only have a bad crash once!)

hi there all,

Seems a cool challenge to me, i will post my time for the Honda NSX here for fuji......and also on granturismo.de.....gonna try the lap now... 👍 :)

The goal here is not to beat the times, but to match them. These were professional drivers and they're best lap times. If GT:P is accurate enough, your absolute best lap times should match the lap times. This would show a very accurate game. This 1:44 compared to the 1:48 in real life shows some imperfections about the track and/or physics. It's sad to see, but It's still better than the lap times on nurburgring in PGR2.

:yuck: NSX Type S Zero 1.48.000 (237.03km/h)

and yes the Nurb in PGR2 is a crying shame 👎

I completely agree. If someone can achieve a 4 sec lower time on a +/- 1min40sec lap, then the actual diference is around 4%, and not "less than 1%" as KY told about the Nurburgring.

We should also consider that R/L times are affected by brake, tire and engine condition, wind, temperature, ambient pressure, etc. Both brakes and tires can wear easily on normal cars used on track. The engine can also overheat and loose some power. Therefore, it is very difficult to do consistent laps on a normal car in R/L. In GT4P you can do as many laps under the same conditions as you wish. That can also justify a big lap time difference.

Umm...some people are very dumb. Pull out your brain and plug it in!!! Jesus, this is FUJI, KY never claimed that FUJI was within 1%. He claimed NURBURGRING was within 1% of the actual track.

Can you play a demo of the nurburgring? I know that I can't, and neither can any of us here. Stop making judgements about KY and his statements, they are all usually true.

Now, as for FUJI, this is GT4 Prologue. A demo. A "prologue" or preview to GT4. This = Not the final game. He still has plenty of time before November (if he already hasn't done so) to change the car's physics, but I don't think it is a problem with the physics. So then he would work on the track, curves, straights, etc. on making them as accurate as possible. I have faith in KY...he is the man.

EDIT: Also, as said many times in other forums, in RL you would probably not get the lowest possible times because fear of DEATH. I am sure that a fear of dying while playing a video game is only for psycos and schittzofrenias (i know it's not spelled right ), so we are able to achieve much faster lap times.

Chill out TriplePlay! :grumpy: Who do you think you are to write to anybody here in that offensive way??! :dunce:

For your info, KY said that they have reached a level of realism in GT4´s simulation of tracks and car physics that they are now able to include real life tracks, and as an example, he mentioned that the actual difference between real life and GT4 was less than 1% of the total lap time (same driver and car).

What makes you think that the level of track detail simulation is different between FUJI and Nurburgring? The data is collected in the same way for any "real" track, and they are all made to the same standard of quality.

If KY "only" meant Nurburgring to be within 1%, why do you think he bothered to include other "less real" tracks? If he included FUJI and Tsukuba, it is because they are all made to the same standard.

If you are going to call someone "very dumb" or ask anyone to "pull out your brain and plug it", at least do it when you have a good enough reason. Otherwise, we will all think YOU are the DUMB and the one who needs the brain plugging!! :)

We are just having some fun comparing Real world lap times to our own, but thanks for jumping down our throats anyway

Also mentioned in this very thread, if you'd read it b4 posting :)

Jeez, see how passionate a GT4 fan gets if he thinks u r dissing his game...

Sorry guys, didn't mean to jump down your throats, just some things just p*$$ me off. I think that what you meant when you said 1% was that the tracks were made to within 1% of ther RL Counterparts, not that the lap times were within 1%. I also read in another forum that the Nurburg was within 5 seconds of RL, which is VERY good, considering the length of 14 miles!! No matter what, it's gonna be the best game in the end, even if it is 20 seconds from RL...:)

And I am very passionate about my GT...:bowdown:

Sorry guys, didn't mean to jump down your throats,

OK u'r forgiven :)

I will agree with u that GT4 will b the best racing sim EVER (until GT5 at least...)

I can do a 1:47 round Fuji knowing that I'm not going to slide off the track or outbrake myself on a corner,
I'm still going fast, but within my limits. I know if I take a few chances and push the braking point a bit, I might shave off a second or two.

Those professional drivers that reviewed the cars probably borrowed it for the day and had to hand it back it one piece!
I doubt if they'd had the luxury of trying the same car on the same track for hours and hours.

Tiff Needal got 15 mins in the Enzo round a track (1st time on track as well) and that was it, for his review. He did get fastest journalist though! 👍

If you'd given the BEST MOTORING drivers 10 cars each and said "go on crash as many as u like, see how fast u can go" I'm sure they would have got a 1:44 as well.

No ones doubting the physics or realism of GT4P or GT4, its just nice to compare to real times.

What would be odd is if I could get a better lap with the BMW M Coupe than the NSX, coz after all, the reviewers aren't trying to prove who is the best driver, they are comparing cars.

Now...its half past beer time! I'm off!
