R&T photos of the RX-8

Hey, I was just looking through Road and Track's site and found an RX-8 feature. Basically, there are a number of photos and a blurb to pick up the magazine for the full story. That's a bit annoying, but I guess they are in business to sell magazines. It looks pretty close to the GT3 version, too. Here's a link:

I saw the show car in the flesh at the Sydney motor show. And I liked it!

My problem is there's no chance of me weaning the better half off AWD - she's addicted (especially in the wet).

Which is a shame - this was as close to a two door as we were ever going to get!

Have you explained to her the almighty power of the naturally aspired rotary engine?

My only hangup so far is the front end. It just looks goofy. From some shots it looks slightly better than "alright".

But in other shots it looks down right STUPID.

Thoughts?

Might as well explain it to the cat...

With the front end styling, I think the main point of contention is the combined grille/front air dam, which I think will be broken up by a license plate.

There are a couple of awkard angles at the front, but they seem to predominantly be 'above' shots taken from a little bit of a distance - a view you probably won't encounter in real-life.

Actually, the front end from some angles really reminds me of the old V6 MX-6.

MX-6? They look totally different IMO. I really like the car, the front looks fine, and the side and back look even better. I like these wheels a lot better than the Concept car ones(GT3), they look sleeker, not as sticking out as the old ones. And while the front might look like the S2000, maybe Honda came up with the best idea, and Mazda is barrowing it. That happens a lot in the auto industry.

The new 6 looks exelllent, will post pics when I get home from school.

sorry thumbs down thats is ugly, they have lost the plot, would be glad to have any other RX 7 parked in the drive but pass on the RX 8

I kind of like it. I do see some S2000 resemblance in the front end, though. And living in a US state where front plates are required, I wonder what people are going to do. I shudder to think if people bolting a plate onto the grille on a car like this, but I've seen that with a lot of cars without a front slot.

But I digress. And, to ramble some more, I think seeing Mazda and Honda releasing fairly serious sports cars for around $30K US is a pretty good thing.

this new rotary car is cool, but needs to resemble more of the rx-7 for me to like it more...it looks like a family sports car.

DUH!!!It's an 8, not 7. You must not know a lot about the car. That's the whole point of the car: a 4 seater speeder. The RX-7 is suposedly(a rumor I heard on RX-7 Club) comeing back in 2004, and the people of the RX-7 Club made some scetches of what they wanted, and someone close to Mazda posted an early shot of what it might look like. It looked cool, I can't find the pic but it was cool.
