Just wondering how many people actually apply logic to their online races?

Currently running 550pp RWD @ Suzuka in the Clio. For example, I found myself in 4th place unable to catch the lead group. I saw Rudi Raser behind me, so I allow him through because I know he will 'pull me along' with him potentially upto the leading group. Also, by allowing him past it doesn't cost either of us any time on the track.

When in his slipstream, I would not pass as we were both catching the leading 3 guys - the splits were proving this!

However (and this is not an insult, merely an evaluation) Steviosiov didn't seem to notice me hanging onto Rudi, in the hope of catching the front 3 cars. To give him the benefit of the doubt that he may actually be faster than us both (or rather, Rudi) I let him past. He then managed to pass Rudi but when he was infront, our little pack then started to fall back from the leaders.

I also tried to do the same with GTRP_Hugo earlier on with him in his Elise. I slipstreamed him on the main straight, then eased off to give him my slip and also allow him to re-pass me before the first turn and all the esses where he would surely catch up with the lead pack. He did. And we caught the main pack and I eventually won ;)

Anyone else do this? Or notice it when it's happening? I find this part of racing the most fascinating 👍

This is always a great thing to try if you are at the rear of the pack. It's sometimes very suprising how much ground you can make up by using a pace-setter.

If I see some 'known fast' driver behind me, I let him pass me rather than taking defencing line which slows both of us. I usually can follow these fast drivers, and sometimes also able to give some bumbdraft too, to make us both to be quicker.

When last lap starts, it's 'two of us', and final battle begins. If I cant make pass on mainstraight, I only wait that another opponent to do mistake... that rarely happen. :(

I noticed your intentions indeed. I do it as well when I think it can help me significantly. With the Elise I don't always make the pass, when I'm better off slipstreaming the other car on the straight. In case the gap is too big to the leaders, I'll just pass wherever possible. To me passing and driving side by side is the most fascinating part of racing

I really enjoyed that race btw

Ya know reading posts like this makes me really wish I enjoyed online. And its not the punters. its just so laggy its impossible to race. One second a car is in one spot then the next I'm slammed in the grass because we both suddenly occupy the same place with no chance to avoid each other.

+2. I hoped no-one else knew about this.

Yes, racing strategy is nice part of racing. But today GT5p online racing is full of fatal game and player mistakes occupying me much more than those little nuances. I wish I could enjoy the strategy one day.

I like drive together and not against each other. then is a exciting run and a good total time possible. 👍

The race craft I, and I'm not the only one, am using is making deliberate mistakes in the last lap on Suzuka, so that the person following has to take over the lead and you can slipstream him on the long back straight :D

+1 for that. This happened to me yesterday night (twice). And I was not only drafting, but also using "bump drafting" to give the guy ahead a little boost. And we caught up with the pack ahead of us. 👍

hi to all .it's my record

Same 'strategy' here. Hivemind?
If I'm only keeping up due to drafting, there's little point attempting a pass. So, I'm happy to follow until a mistake happens or we catch the next pack.

Thanks for calling me out there

I think I sent an apology to Rudi afterwards for slowing him down. What can I say, once I got ahead I seemed to loose quite a bit of pace. The fact that I caught you and Rudi who were catching the leaders suggest I had sufficient pace, for some reason I bottled it afterwards.

However (and this is not an insult, merely an evaluation) Steviosiov didn't seem to notice me hanging onto Rudi, in the hope of catching the front 3 cars.

Well no it wasn't obvious that you were hanging onto Rudi to catch the leaders its not like you were bump drafting, which would be advisable in that situation.

Wait a minute. You guys are able to race one another so does that mean GT5P online allows private rooms now or the ability to invite your friends to a race? I haven't played online in a very long time so I have no idea if there has been an update to allow this.

The lag will be down to your connection mate, I garentee. I used to only have a 1mb connection and 9/10 races were near impossible. I switched to 20mb Virgin fibre-optics and now only 1/50 races are impossible!

Stevisiov
I personally think 'bump-drafting' should be avoided. It in my experience, causes complications with braking points and entry speeds to corners for both people. But that is just me.

It was one race of many, which just made me want to start a topic to see if I was the only one who played the game like this. I recently ran right along with Rudi, behind him for an entire race with multiple oppertunities to pass him, but he was putting in times I could only dream of without a tow. He allowed me to do a 14.4xx which is about 2 seconds faster than what I can run on my own! I think your speed you displayed when you passed Rudi was representative of someone of 'our' speed...you know?

I have found that using the draft to leap frog will get you to the front faster than bump drafting.Bump drafting is best used on the last lap as you are coming to the line. You can go from 3rd to 1st this way.:)

Ya I knew the lag would most likely be attributed to my connection. We are on Comcast with a 10mb system which I think recently went up to 12mb. I never had problems like that with say PGR4, Forza, or COD4. I know they are all 360 games but still using the same connection. Ahh... one day perhaps lol
