Race Ranks, Please help

something ive probably overlooked but when i raced the same track it obviously goes from Rank D to C to B, but then after B if i wont the race it wouldnt move to A.

why is this?

i was using an s2000 with R1's on and 1 lap, i tried suzuka east and a small city oval type track.

Sometimes in B, A and S classes you must win more than one race to step up to the next class, so try to race again and maybe better with more than one lap per race.

that was going to be my next thing to try, ill just keep racing, most i tried was 3 B races but it didnt change..

could it be anything to do with me using R1's and not S3's?

You need to win MORE races to progress AS you progress through the ranks.

A & S takes the most, just keep running it until you get S, THEN you may appreciate some tuning to make the car faster :)

Don't do what I do. I add a Stage 4 Turbo Upgrade and just run the AI down!

how do you tune your cars?

There isn't a true tuning screen, but a very stripped down one that allows for some minor adjustments - after selecting the car/track/mode (and hitting the 'OK' button), then click on 'Quick Tune' to get to the tuning menu.

when i click ok all i see is

Start | Race Options | Track Options | Car Settings | Exit

if i click car settings i get

OK | Cancel

but i can change the transmission, tcs asm etc.

Edit* tried it with the VX220 and the RX7 LM Car and neither do it.

I think the car has to be one of your favorites for you to be able to change the settings in the quick tune menu. I forget how to make a car one of your favorites, but I think you select a car and hit the triangle.

The quick tune is very limited. In races you can only change the height, springs, dampers, toe, and camber (going from memory so I might have missed something).

You're completely correct... I forgot that very important aspect! It has to be in your 'favorites' (by hitting triangle when selecting the car).

:)

The System Goes As Follows

To get C Rank you need 1 Win in D Rank
To get B Rank you need 1 Win in C Rank
To get A Rank you need 2 Wins in B Rank
To get S Rank you need 3 Wins in A Rank

That is what I've been thinking as well, but I've come to a conclusion that levelling up is based on points. I'm not too sure of the exact numbers, since I haven't been able to test all permutations of points and it's been a while since I finished all tracks on S Class, but IIRC it's something like this:

D->C: <8 points (forgot exact number)
C->B: <8 points (same as above :ouch:)
B->A: 10 points
A->S: 20 points

1st place gives 8 points, 2nd gives 4 points, 3rd gives 2 points and 4th gives 1 point.

The points reset after you have attained a new class.

P.S. Like I said above, I'm not entirely sure of the exact numbers, but this is what I can remember from when I was doing races to level up. If someone can verify, it'll be great 👍.

I know what you mean because i got 2 seconds and 2 wins on A rank and got to S, twas a nice surprise

Your probably right, but someone is going to have to lose every race until they get S rank... I'll do it, grudgingly

Unfortunately I have worked out that D rank gives you NO Points whatsoever, but i can believe if you halve all the other values earlier than you would be right.

So this Means

D -> C = 4 pts
C -> B = 4 pts
B -> A = 5 pts
A -> S = 10 pts

Where every time you rank up points are reset

1st = 4 pts
2nd = 2 pts
3rd = 1 pts
4th = 0pts

I just did 11 seperate 4th places on the beginner course and got no extra rank - its still on D.

Thanks for getting the other numbers tho LeGeNd - 1

Thanks for testing and clarifying my predictions Raagentreg 👍. Glad I'm not that far off the mark :).

Maybe the mods can make this thread a sticky? It'll help a lot of newbies I'm sure (and prevent thread duplicates as well).
