I've had an idea for a race series knocking around in my head for a while now, here's how it would go:

Race format will be a 10 minute qualifying session, a 1 hour Feature race with a required pitstop 25-35 minutes into the race (Super GT style), and a 15 minute Sprint race with half point awarded in the Sprint race.

For the Sprint race, the grid will be reversed, so whoever finished last in the lower class. (or whoever was disconnected and came back into the lobby first) will be on pole for the Sprint race.

Adjustments of suspension, brake balance, differential, downforce, and weight balance would be allowed for the upper class (if applicable). Brake balance and weight balance would be allowed on the lower class, but no modifications are allowed, but I don't know how that can be policed.

Some of the races in the 20 race schedule will feature night and/or wet weather racing.

The points system isn't sorted out yet, but I'm thinking of using GT6's point system, but the cars are not set yet. I do want to race 2 cars, with definite disparity between the two.

Car ideas I've had:

  • Renault Megane Trophy and Megane R.S. Trophy (leaning towards this one)
  • BMW M3 GT2 and road car
  • Nissan Z GT500 and GT-R Black Edition
  • Subaru BRZ GT300 and Toyota 86 GT Racing
  • Lexus LFA Nurburgring and IS-F
If anyone has suggestions for cars, I'll take them into account for when testing starts. We will test them at my discretion though.

Sounds like a great idea - probably more popular with the modern cars suggested, but what about a classic matchup:

Shelby GT350 Mustang 1965 v Alfa Romeo Giulia TZ2 1965 (possibly tuning prohibited for ultra close racing)

or

Shelby Cobra 427 1966 v Ford GT40 Mark 1 1966 (tuning prohibited with power limiter to bring the Cobra 427 down slightly till it matches the GT40)

Sports tyres?

Thanks for the inspiration Azure Flare - I'm off to do some testing!

Added by edit - already tested the Cobra v GT40 and on Sports Mediums (GT40 on Hard fronts) I'm getting the same lap times at Brands Indy with the power limiter on the Cobra set to match the GT40 (371bhp).

While I like the sound of your suggestion. But I kinda would like for costs of the cars to be down, not everyone can easily obtain an Alfa TZ2.

When I mean "disparity", I mean by the definition of it, which is "a great difference". You would notice that one car is a lot faster than the other in my lineup.

As far as tires go, RH for race cars, SS for road cars.

I would also want cars that allow for aftermarket wheels and number plates on them.

Sounds like an interesting idea.

As an idea for some cars, why not try the old GT5 Race Modifiable models against their standard originals. E.g. The TVR Tuscan (RM) against the original.
There are also those from the GT5 DLC packs which added "souped up" versions of cars already in the game. Such has the Mazda RX7 T.C. against the normal RX7.
They are now all called race/touring cars in GT6

So they would be the same cars just race enhanced against road versions. Some of course have a wider disparity than others - which might be useful in some cases.
They are not too expensive and also, I think they would all allow race numbers to be added.

but no modifications are allowed, but I don't know how that can be policed.
This is the problem with the limited options that PD give us. Trust is the option you would have to use!
(I had an idea for a GT5 series using the RM cars where the car would evolve over a few weeks. E.g. In week one stage 1 parts could added. Week two stage 2 parts. And so on until the car was a full RM. But I decided that policing the various stages was too problematic).

Perhaps if you were to run them all un-tuned, the race models should already have a fairly good setup anyway and the road cars couldn't then have parts added to them. That way there wouldn't be any confusion/difficulties. Some things like brake balance can still be altered.

If you want a multi-class series with a big disparity and readily available cars what about the Red Bull Junior (258bhp) v the Red Bull Standard (limited to 428bhp) - on sport hard tyres I had a difference of 20 seconds a lap round Trial Mountain. If the cars are run unturned there should be close racing with each class. This idea is based on the following suggestion.

For something slower - the 1998 Mini feels very good standard and on the original tyres - why not have that in a two class race with a newer Mini? You can't put a race number on the 1998 Mini, but team identification by colour would be easy.

For ease of Hosting I suggest running any car combinations untuned on the same tyres and using the power limiter on the more powerful car to control the size of the disparity.

I think I may host test races to find which car combo I like best.

I'm thinking Sunday at 11:30 AM CST would be a good time to start one.

I think the first will be the Renault Megane Trophy and Megane R.S Trophy, I'll put up a thread for it tomorrow.
