Race Speed Setting - How Do You Know

I'm racing B-Spec races and I find it hard to know what speed I need to set my transmission to when racing different races. How do you all know what to set the transmission's speed before the race when attempting to win? Any and all advice is appreciated.

Go to Practise Mode with the Car you wish to Test , Pick the Track you wan't to Test the Car on . Find the longest Straight and set the Gearing to just under the Rev Limit in the Peak Gear it uses .

Gives you a little leeway should you need to Draft Overtake .

B-Spec Drivers are usually a Bit slower Top Speed wise though .

Thanks for the great information I will definitely have to do that. I kept thinking there must be a way to know what the top speed needed was because I saw other forum posters talking about it, but they didn't go into detail about it.

Follow the advice above, but on tracks which you'll never reach top speed (curvy tracks with loops, etc), you want to lower the top speed set in the transmission in order to increase acceleration rate (accelerates faster). When setting transmission top speed, its always a balance between top speed vs acceleration rate.

So what you're saying is that you just have to go by trial and error to determine the speed to set the transmission, right? Thanks.

Taking this a little bit further... is there a limit to how low you can go?
For example on autumn ring mini, is it wise to set a 6-gear transmission to a maximum of 99mph? Sure you'll always be in the power band but do we have to factor in the added time for all those extra gear changes?
Also, do engine revs affect the corner speed? Sometimes if I'm nearly at the red line, I find if I shift up just before the corner I can take it a little easier. Surely then if you decrease your max speed and hence increase the engine revs when cornering, it will have an effect too?

Sorry I'm going off topic, but I don't fully underrstand how this all works.

It is all depends on if the car you are making adjustments to has the optional LSD installed on your car's transmission. If the LSD is installed, there is a limit in which you have a minimum speed setting and maximum speed setting. You access the LSD to set it by going to the Tuning button the bottom of the screen while you are viewing your car in your garage. Then you can make your adjustment to the speed by changing the settings of the LSD in the transmission category.

Yeah but remember, if your car tops out at 150mph, don't set the transmission at 149 or 155. You have to compensate for aerodynamics.

So what exactly does the LSD do, and what's the best setting for it?

The LSD locks the drive wheels together and has absolutely nothing to do with transmission gearing or anything else this thread. I honestly have no idea why the poster above you even mentioned it. I think he's confused.

I don't understand everything, but was trying to help. I've got a lot to learn as well. Thanks for your explanation. Would you happen to have an answer to my initial question? Thanks.

No problem, dude. Actually I don't have anything to add because the other guy nailed it: You want the car to just barely hit redline in top gear at the very end of the longest straight. Personally I just set it at SSR7 or la Sarthe w/o chicanes and never touch it again unless I add more power or change the aerodynamics. Maybe I'm just lazy. :dunce:

 yep your Lazy but whatever works for you is allways a good choice 👍

One other Important thing to Add to my Original Answer .

Corner Exit Speed Determines Final Speed on the Longest Straight . The Better you Exit a corner the Higher a speed you will reach at the End of a straight .

Oh and do Remember to make the Adjustments after you've run a Few laps so you and your Car know the Track Well enough .
