Racing clean in 2 laps...

This may not be specifically a GT6 topic but a GT topic in general that just has me really bugged now after watching a bunch of new gameplay videos.

Like I said this has always been an issue but seems even worse now in the early races. It forces you to take risks and drive like you never would in real life or even online. The closing rates are so insane it only works because you know for absolutely sure that the AI cars are going to stay on the racing line and at what speed. You often have to cut cars off or go way to far inside or if on the outside either have them run into you or again go out into the grass. All this because you only have 2 laps to make up a pretty decent gap from last to first.

I know the issue of race length is getting whined about all over the place here (sorry about that) but darnit PD could you at least give us a length% slider or something. I just don't like having to drive like an 8 year old to gold the short events.

Am I the only one bothered by this?

I guess it is supposed to be difficult. Of course you're going to walk it if you drive all of them off the road. It's much the same as it is in real life. The real challenge is for you to be smooth and clean, yet quick.

In (my) an ideal world, AI difficulty option, qualifying option, # of laps option.

I get difficult but there are better ways of doing it than making it so you have to drive like an absolute animal :(

I've watched the first few races and at no point have I thought that it would be impossible to gold the event without driving like a complete nutter. As long as you have the right car for it, it should be fine. Don't expect to turn up at the Novice Championship in your bone-stock Fit RS and expect to win cleanly.

I don't want this to turn into another general whining thread but that's part of the issue. You shouldn't have to modify your stock car to "cleanly" have a chance against other stock cars.

Ummmm...all you have to do is divebomb in every braking zone. Guaranteed easy pass!
Understood but like I said earlier that really only works because you know exactly what they're going to do and where they'll be. That is a really risky move in real life. Not one that drivers would take at every corner on the track repeatedly.

Ugh, maybe I should shut this down now before the mods come in and kick my butt for having another thread like this lol.

Apart from the opening Sunday Cup, every other event features cars that are faster than a stock Fit RS, and you will need to either get a faster car or upgrade your current car to compete fairly.

True. Fair point.

These are all things we should have, and I don't understand why PD is still (apparently) ignoring this.

Agreed.

Qualify, 2 wide start, fixed.

I have to agree with you, OP. You either have to have a faster car (which allows you to walk your opponents) or you have to y'know... brake using their cars. There's really no level of talent in the world that can allow you to go from last to first in a car that's roughly the same performance as your opponents' on two laps of Autumn Ring Mini. Gran Turismo has always had an issue with that.

Standing stars, qualifying, race length... something needs to be thrown in so we don't have to mentally switch from, "Well this is A.I. so I kinda have to play like Burnout for a bit," to, "Alright, I'm around humans. Let me get my act together." Not saying that behaving is hard, it's just immersion braking to have to play bumper cars offline. Either that, or have a car that just decimates the competition.
