As Fyshokid pointed out in the GT5 Time Trial / Demo Discoveries thread, there is now a Yellow flag indicator on the HUD to the left of your split times.

This can be seen by reversing into the pit lane at the start of the main straight, in my case the AI took over and drove me into the wall, but the Yellow flag indicator appeared and waved side to side.

Fyshokid said after his position blocking the entry to the pits was corrected he saw a Green flag, but I was unable to reproduce this.

I believe this confirms at least Yellow and Green flags for GT5.

This makes sense with the new damage model and makes me happy as it is another part of driving on a real track I can learn in the safety of my own home.

What do the yellow and green flags mean and why are they so important to a lot of people that want them in the game? What do they do...these flags?

No, I only play racing games, and Im very good at them, I know nothing about the flags, except checkered flag for finish and red flag for disqualified -I think. Dont watch racing, I play racing games. Does that make me stupid to you?

Here's all the flag's meanings - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Racing_flags

Basically flags are a way of indictating something to the driver's on track with ease. So yeah, this could mean caution ahead (yellow flag, double waved for a dangerous situation), red flag (signifies bad accident ahead or the stoppage of a session) etc.

Just check out the link above.

To be honest, flags aren't as important to me as other factors are, simply because it's a game and we have the ability to have a track map and HUD applied.

In real life, there aren't any indicators other than your radio and flagmen. Even if you choose to turn the HUD off (which I know I will given the interiors are up to snuff), I still think it would be a bit of a pain to even see the flags, as most people are focused on overtaking the guy in front. Heck, most people will miss the flags completely because they won't be able to look to the side of some tracks and see the flagman (only a fraction will use head tracking).

But included or not, it's not a game making/breaking feature to me.

Yea, I can confirm of both yellow and green flags. I just tried it out after this thread was opened, and the green flag did appear at like the 10th try. It's official I believe, we've got flags! :D

All right !!!:D I wonder whether or not we can turn off this flag option...

I can also confirm the yellow flag. I didn't get the green flag afterwards, but it definately works.
Its not that good looking, but Iam happy its finally there!

merry christmas :)

And a black flag. I remember seeing a black flag when watching Fyshokid's video clip.

If you have 16 cars on the track, things can get quite busy and I would welcome not running into an accident ahead of me.

That's only my personal wish, but a safety car or black flagging would be most welcome for online races. Would take care of crash kiddies ruining the experience. One can wish - it's Christmas after all :)

Two best flags
White Flag -last lap
Checkered flag -finished race

Especially in those enduros. Damn that all night Special Route 5 in GT2. First endurance race, and last one I'll ever do.

Good news, thank you for bringing this find to our attention.

Since damage is being introduced, I have been hoping for yellow flags to be in the game as an option, some races I'd of course turn it off.. but for the most part I'd have them on for the full racing experience.

The only other things regarding race rules I'd like to see something about now.. is either a warm up lap (skippable) cutscene, or you can drive the warm-up lap (as a option), still being in control of the car during yellows, and if you fail to obey the yellow flag rules you get black flagged, and lastly I'm hoping you can control your car during pitstops.. yes, I want the full sim racing experience.

That would be awesome if you had to manually put on your speed limiter for the pits so you don't get a penalty.

I agree, or even manually stay at (for ex:) 50 Mph (since you wouldn't know the exact RPM for each cars 50 mph lol), and last of my ideas in that subject is I had at least one extra button on my Ds3.. and I sure have extra buttons on my G27, so even a pit request button you have to use would be cool.. although, this could be getting into a different subject on my mind.. crew-chief communication.

I'll stop while I'm ahead. :P

I know its by no means a confirmation...
However, while going around the TT if you look at the stands the flags that are flying are the GT logo, green, yellow, black, red and the blue with red stripe.
I believe these are the different types of flags you can get while racing, this COULD be a hint from PD as to what COULD be in the game ;)

Merry Christmas :)

Replicating pitstops can be an element of immersion certainly. I know that one of my favorite things about GTR & GTR2 was that you had (by selecting the Option) to signal your pit before entering, you had to hit your "speed limiter" switch and be at or below the speed limit before you crosssed the pit entry line, and you could drive to your pit. Then you had the option of taking on a variety of fuel loads and choosing tire types (Dry, Inters, and Wets). You had to shut off ignition before refuleing as per the FIA rules and then refire the engine when refueling was finished. Sometimes the engine did not fire off immediately or the engine would stall. In any case, you could make up time in the pits by not refueling and not having to stop and start the engine. When you win a 2 hour race by seconds and you know you won it through pit strategy, it gives you a whole new sense of satisfaction.

Flags sound good, not sure if I'd find them too useful as I do try to be aware of whats happening on track ahead of me using the map. Nice touch though.
As for the pit limited, I'm not sure I'd be too bothered with this addition but if PD would like to add it then I wouldn't complain as it just increase realism.

I love how this thread has randomly been resurrected after almost exactly a year :P .. And how there are no actual flags in the game

Wait a sec, is this online, offline? Is it only in NASCAR? And was it the patch or have flags always been in the game? All they need now is a safety car to come out :)

cmon , flags arent that important, what we need is better engine sounds and fix some horrible standard cars like this one

plz kaz fix this and some sounds!!!

I'm going to test this out when I get the chance to later. I hope in Nascar races, the yellow flag will work like yellow flags in Nascar (that way, if there's an "accident", the race will resume double file like the start of the race. And it wouldn't be impossible to catch up with everyone else if you crash.)

EDIT: Thanks a lot for whoever resurrected this thread *sarcasm*. I thought that this thread was just started today. Please disregard this post.
