Ok, sorry if this has been asked before but I couldn't find it...what does the racing modification do? Is it just a 85,000 paint job or do you get all of the go fast goodies with it?

You get lighter body panels and improved aerodynamic functionality. You'll be able to set the downforce levels front and rear on any race modded cars. Do the weight reductions first, once you've done the racing mod you can't do the weight reductions for some reason, unless that was just in GT1. It's an important mod.

but for engine mods it does nothing right? Any suspension mods?

No, it's a body kit, so it has nothing to do with engine or suspension mods. Like live4speed says, the racing mod makes a car lighter and gives you control over its aerodynamic abilities.

The race mod only affects the aerodynamics of your car, it makes a huge difference to your cars performance though if you set the downforce right, you can make your car corner a lot fast and be a lot more stable at high speeds. All the other mods like the engine tuning, tyres and suspension mods are seperate from the race mod.

I got beaten to the punch but oh well 👍.

just a correction, all three weight reductions are necessary before you can install the racing modification. i dont know about your version but thats what happens in mine

Your right, I just checked in GT2 you have to do the weight reductions first, it's GT1 where you can do the race mod first but then you can't do any of the weight reductions.

 Are you sure?

I thought you always needed to get all three wr's first before getting the body kit. Unless PAL has a different method...

Not in my copy of GT1 you don't, in GT2 I do but in GT1 I don't have to, but I can't do the weight reduction at all if I buy the race mod first, so it's better to do the weight reductions then the race mod.

Well that's the point..once you have the race mod, you shouldn't need to get weight reductions...they've already been done. Personally, I've always found the process of buying Stage 1 then Stage 2 then Stage 3 then the race-mod a bit tedious. I don't see why you can't just go straight for the race-mod and have all 3 done. Whatever.

that is a very good point. i guess they just wanna make you pay more, lol. why 80,000 dollars, dont you think thats a little extreme? i say 50,000 for the race mod and 80,000 for the race mod plus all three weight reductions.

It has to do with the way the game is programmed. Each part or service has its own code so if you skip any things would get messed up. In GT4 they actually tell you what each weight reduction service implies (there goes the soundproofing in the doors, the back seat, etc) but in the first 3 games there's a bit of mystery implied (Stage 3? hey it's just Stage 2 but it costs more!)

But I still don't see why they couldn't put a "buy all modifications" code in there for a reduced price! 💡

Don't know if I quite follow you, I wasn't saying the race mod did the weight reductions, just if you did the race mod first, you couldn't do the weight reductions at all and as a result your car would be heavier than it would be if you did the weight reductions first.

it gives you a better car handling:crazy:

Yes, we have established this. Better aerodynamics=better handling...more precise braking & cornering...etc.

L4S I'm saying in my copy, all the weight reductions must be done first before the race-mod. Therefore, it seems odd that in your version, a car can potentially wind up being several different weights once the race-mod is performed (with or without the preceding weight reductions)

In my copy, a store-bought Civic Si with a race-mod will always weigh the same, see?

This should clear things up:

GT1: You can ignore Weight Reduction Stages 1-2-3, and proceed right to the purchase of Racing Modification. All weight is reduced with this feature.

GT2: You must purchase the three Weight Reduction stages (each reduces some weight), before you can purchase the Racing Modification. The Racing Modification actually lowers a cars weight by about 20-100 pounds compared to Stage 3 Weight Reduction, but it winds up costing you ~110,000 credits to perform a Race Mod on even the smallest and least-powerful cars.

One of the worst is the Subaru 360. Stage 3 reductions costs $20,000 yet removes just 27 pounds! That works out to about 740 credits per pound!

Not much weight to begin with. It's all based on a percentage, I think.

Yeah I know. I'm sure to replace some body panels or chassis parts with carbon fiber or aluminum, they'd have to be custom-made; hence the high cost.
