If you've never tried it, expect a big learning curve! It'll take a long while, months even, to get to where you are with your controller.

You have to consider the sacrifice in the beginning, to get long term reward. If you can't, stick with a controller.
 
really, I've always heard you can be much more precise with a wheel, so I assumed it would make it easier. also I've been getting blisters on my thumbs ever since gt6 came out.
 
You can be more precise with a wheel but it takes a while to build the muscle memory and develop a braking technique. So you won't just sit down at the wheel and be faster, but after a short while you likely will be. You will, for sure, have a lot more fun. 👍
 
I agree I have a simulation rig for gt5 that I used but only like 25% of my gt5 life and now they I have been using it 100% for gt6 it take a while to get used to but when you do it's awesome.

Time is improved and enjoyment also
 
Can you choose to use paddle shifters or stick for any car?
Yes but I've notice on some cars u can't use shifter you had to use paddle shifter because that how they are factory made. But if I throw it into gear first manual gearbox is engaged.
 
I got my steering wheel (g27), after having played GT5 for a while. And it was so difficult to drive, that I gave up gt. But when gt6 came, I tried again. I still struggle with the wheel, but is starting to master it. Yes, you can get more precise steering, but it takes a long time. Especially with powerful cars, FR and MR. And braking and acceleration, is a story for itself. But you will learn after a while.

Search up some threads about learning to drive with the steering wheel. I know there are some here on GTPlanet, I've read them my self. But can not find them now....

Thanks for the tips! As for the G27... best bang for the buck? I don't really want to invest in some $500 hardware that may not be compatible with next gen -- especially if I'm not sure I'll even like using it anyway.
 
If $2xx is your price range, I would second the idea of considering the Fanatec bundle (last one on the linked page). The fact that it is belt drive, and that it has a load cell brake are major factors in my opinion. Also, the on-wheel adjustments very much come in handy.

- Fanatec pedals win for sure.
- G27 might have the better shifter.
- Wheel is down to preferences.

One doesn't buy a wheel to gain an advantage, but to get the feeling of driving a car. No real car uses a DS3...
 
I bought mine to do a GT4 license test with a twitchy Mercedes around the Nurburgring. By about my third try I passed it - after numerous unsuccessful attempts with the controller. So you can get better right away, but it will take time to really feel 100% comfortable with it.

I might recommend going with automatic transmission right at first to get used to the the wheel and pedals, and then going back to manual once you're comfortable with it.
