Rally cars and road cars

Is it just me or would anyone else like to see the exact versions of the cars used in rallys being sold by the likes of mitsubishi and subaru and or peugeot? you hear of the 206 winning rallys but im sure they have a 4WD gt-r version with 300hp+ that isn't sold to regular people and hence isn't a real peugeot? i think im right when i say that in the past manufacturers were forced to make a road car first before they could race it i.e. the audi quattro, lancia delta integrale etc and wouldnt that be a good thing to bring back?

That would be a big yes.. I'm still, hopelesly, in love with the Renault 5 Turbo from the mid eighties.. That little car ruled along with the old Pug 205 Turbo 16 :D

So yes.. Get them back on the streets. If not in full rally trim, then at least with the same configuration. 4WD, turbo, roll cage etc.

Well all Toyota factory rally cars are in German registry.

Don't know about the F1 cars :D.

i think that the argument for dropping it before was that manufacturers had to spend a great deal of money developing and testing the cars they put out on the road whilst privateers came in with stock cars that had mods and could just race. but since all the manufacturers put out cars with at least the chassis and body very similar to the road version, i dont see what the fuss about testing could be since the rally car could easily pass the safety tests. mechanical tests are provided through racing, so just release the version you are left with at the end of the season

i too loved that renault five from the 80's :D heh. it would be great to sit/buy a car and drive it knowing that EXACTLY that car could rule in a rally if you slapped some dirt tyres on rather than knowing that if u spent extra cash on mods and knew how to tune it, THEN it could be the best.

There's one for sale around here. Not too expensive but it needs a little TLC and they're getting so old that the only place you can still get parts are in france.. I don't even think the local Renault Pusher would look at it :(

While we were still considering buying it, I found a few places on the net with parts. Amongst other things a complete gr.B engine kit :mischievous: 300Bhp in that little car is just crazy (note to self: Remember to buy rollcage)

Well these days, racing is taking a bigger and bigger part in the manufacturing of cars. Race Tuned Suspension, Race inspired this, Track worthy that. Now it is getting easier to make a car legal for the track and make it good too...

i use to own a renualt 5 gt turbo in the late 80's but its probarly not the same version your thinking about, mine was only FF with a 1.4 turbo charged engine, mind you it use to go like stink

Don't think the 5 ever appeared in a JB movie.. He did have a run in with a Renault 11 though :D

i thought it was in one of the james bond films because i remember him driving it and being chased by a helicopter (i think) but i could be wrong

One of the cars he was being chased by in a helicopter was a White Lotus (I think, lookes like one). It was also a submarine as well. Im a bit of a Bond freak/obsessionist :P...

i think ur thinking of the citroen 2cv. its pretty similar in size and shape, but it wouldn't really have been fair on the bad guys had he been in a gt turbo! :D heh.

i thought the 5 was 4wd though... still ruled
