Random style Replays in GT4

Some of you played GT3. In this game, when it did a replay, you had several choices or "styles" of replays to choose from.

For instance, there was one style that played like a normal replay. You sit there and toggle from your car to one of the 5 ai cars with the d-pad. In GT4, this is called the "NORMAL" style of replays.

You could also select replays that toggled automatically. Basically, the game switches the replay from car to car, and it also provides additional camera angles in the replay. 💡 GT4 has this in "DIVE" mode, and it switches from car to car randomly, but I personally get super-annoyed with the way the camera spins around and around and stuff. know what I mean? I guess DIVE mode is supposed to look cool, but to me it just looks juvenile and gives me a headache.

And then there was a third style of replay called "TOP". This replay only shows the leading car of the race. So if you're in the lead, the replay focuses on you. But if you lose your lead, the replay switches to whatever car is now leading.

I don't know about you guys, but I really miss the "random" replays. There's just more variety and as you sit there (in GT3) watching the replay, it surprises you...it's not just the same old camera angles you'd normally see.

Anyways, so one day I had GT4's starting screen up on my television (you know, the screen where it says "Arcade Mode" "Gran Turismo Mode" "Replay Theatre" and so on). I was doing laundry or something...not paying attention to the screen. All the sudden, one of my replays started to play all by itself! But I noticed that as it played, it switched from car to car!! 💡:D

After some messing around with the OPTIONS menu, I figured out why. Here's how to make random replays happen in GT4:

1. Make sure you have some replays saved in your "PLAYLIST"

2. Go into OPTIONS

3. Scroll to the bottom of the page where it says "MISC"

3. Use these settings:
Opening Movie" Off
Demo Start time: 10
Opening Movie Interval: 0 (zero).

4. Go back to the Starting screen (where it says Arcade Mode, Gran Turismo Mode, Replay Theatre, Save Game, etc).

Normally, your game will play a "demo", but it should now instead play one of your videos, randomly switching from car to car. :)

I'll just add one last thing. This system isn't as great as in GT3. You don't get all those additional camera angles. :grumpy: Also, it switches from car to car automatically, but you still have the option of switching the replay yourself. 👍

Try it!

Yes i agree GT3 had better replay options , for instance in 2 player mode you could make 1 big screen for the replay instead of having to watch it split screen :( GT4

count me in, i prefer the replay options in GT3 better. one option is when there is a battle between two cars, the camera focuses on those two cars, making you feel like you're really watching a battle, which BTW looks cool :D:tup:

but in the DIVE replay mode, it really does not give me a headache. because what the DIVE replay does is go with the flow of the music. you'll notice that the camera angles change as the beat of the music changes. so, if the camera spins in DIVE, it's because the music has a certain beat which the camera follows.., 👍

i really miss the "battle" camera option, or whatever that is called. kinda sucked they removed it in GT4 :indiff:, two cars going neck and neck and the camera focuses on them, you sort get excited when you see it. it gives more viewing pleasure.., :)

yeh! GT3's replay options were so much better! Although the Synchronised replay mode (that's what it's called on my version) is pretty cool, as it changes angles to the music beat (as =drifting24/7= said).

I also loved being able to save 2 player replays, also gone in GT4... Lets hope GT5 will fix the replays again :)

Maybe I'm old or old-fashioned. Sometimes I'll put it on DIVE mode just for variety's sake, but not only will I get a slight headache and my eyes start hurting, but I always get frustrated because the camera angles keep switching over and over. :banghead:

That was called the 'TOP' feature. It would only focus on whatever car(s) were at the lead of the race :grumpy: It must take a lot of processing power for the PS2 to use this system, hence, that's probly why PD got rid of it. :(

only the lead?? i thought even in the middle or on the back of the grid, even if two cars race side by side, the camera would focus on those two..,

Oh, that was the other camera system, the 4th one...I forget what it's called...I'll have to fire up GT3 I guess. :) 💡
