Getting Started

Glitch Alert*: The game will tell you once you load her up you don't have enough space for a game save, which it needs to do before starting. You'll need to delete something with at least 500MB to 'free up' enough space for a game save. I had 162GB of free space and I still got this warning. It's obviously a glitch, and the first one of many.

For starters, you need to update your PS3 to v1.94 in order to run this game. The initial setup takes 100 seconds.

When you start you can choose from
-New Game
-Load Game
-Delete Game
-Options

The Options is where you select the volume for Sound FX, Voiceovers, and Music. You also choose whether or not to use Help Text and Subtitles as well as whether to use Surround or Stereo sound.

When you choose New Game, you create a save file. Choose Load Game to load up a save file. Delete Game of course means to delete the save file.

Game Play

-This game has infinite lives so that means you won't have to view that game over screen.

-Crates and boxes give extra bolts, ammo, and life when smashed. There are explosive crates and metal crates as well. Blow up metal crates for acquiring bolts.

-Leviathan Souls can be collected by killing certain creatures at certain planets. Trade them for gadgets and sell them for bolts to the smuggler.

-Nanotechs increase your life meter. You also gain "Experience" as you play and the level goes up. It goes up to 999.

-Gears on the screen indicate Autosaving. You can also save whenever you want to, but you'll start that stage from the beginning.

-Maps shows where you are located and Galatic Maps are for moving to other planets to complete missions. Later, you'll receive a treasure map pointed out Gold Bolts, which are used to purchase 'skins.'

-You need to collect Raritanium and Bolts to purchase items like Gadgets, Weapons, Weapons upgrades, Ammo, Armor and 'Skins.'

-Skill points are acquired by performing particular feats. Earn all the Skill Points and unlock all the "Cheats" in the game.

-Weapons upgrade on their own with use. Up to Level 5 in Normal Game Mode and up to VX (10) in Challenge Mode after the OMEGA version has been purchased. Weapons only become more powerful or have a new feature added, like extra barrels, etc.

Game Play Tactics

Make sure to collect as much bolts and raritanium as you can. Trust me, you're going to need it. You can earn a lot of bolts by fighting in the Arena Events on Planet Kurow. You can go back there anytime. In fact, in 'Challenge Mode' one great tactic is to use the RYNO 4-Ever on "Noobius Maximus" challenge. In Challenge Mode, you'll be a multiple factor level of up to X20 for bolts and Raritanium earned or found. Enter this event and get to the center of the arena. Press and hold down the R1 (trigger) button and run around the green dome in the center of the arena. If you do it smoothly and quick enough, the enemy would never come near you. Easy to do, and you'll increase your multi factor to max levels in no time. Once that's done, head over the "Return of Crushto" and in just a few seconds, he'll fall earing you 500,000 bolts (100,000 for completion of the event, plus the bolts from the fallen Crushto) everyime you choose this fight. Again, the OMEGA VX RYNO 4-Ever is needed for this tactic to work.

Weapons
You want to use the following weapons as soon as you can, since I feel they are the best in the game. You should note that once upgraded with Raritanium, some weapons you earn you Raritanium with kills, and some extra bolts. Make sure to plan a balanced weapon inventory to earn what you need.

The Combuster is good, but it's weak. It's fun to use in the first few planets (stages) but it's no match after that, even with upgrades and versions earned. Don't upgrade it unless you feel you have to. Save you raritanium for something else, if you can because you'll never use it again after the first two-three planets. The Fusion Bomb is OK, too, but you wont use it after the first few stages.

The Lightning Ravenger is an awesome weapon. You'll use the OMEGA version of it, so buy it, upgrade it, and use it when you first get the chance. It increases your Raritanium and is very powerful. VX OMEGA version has a +3,100 power rating.

The Negotiator is a Fusion Bomb type weapon. It shoots rockets that do a lot of damage. Buy it and upgrade it as soon as you can. I have the OMEGA version of this and it's till very useful. Once upgraded to OMEGA, it becomes the Judicator. Fantastic weapon.

The Alpha Disruptor is another one to upgrade quickly. Two shot Leviathan kills. Cool. You find this one on the 'prehistoric' planet with the Smuggler asking for Leviathan Souls. Once upgraded to V5 it becomes the Alpha Cannon. OMEGA version is fun, but still limited to 5 shots. Becomes obsolete once the RYNO weapon is earned.

And that brings us to "THE" weapon of the game. The RYNO 4-Ever. You earn it by finding HALO-PLAN puzzle pieces located on various planets, usually behind 9x9 bolt crate stacks. Once all are collected, give them to the Smuggler. He'll make you a weapon and give it to you. Make sure to save and earn enough Raritanium to upgrade it to max levels once obtained. It takes a lot of it, more than for normal weapons. Once on VS5, and upgraded to max, it can kill Crushto on about 25-30 seconds. Just hold the trigger and wait. Once on OMEGA VX, it'll kill Crushto in about 6-7 seconds. The biggest Leviathans fall in just one second blast.

Devices

There are quite a few devices in the game you can use to give you and edge. The best of these devices is Mr. Zurkon. Buy him whenever you can. You're going to use him a lot. He's a small Clank-like robot that shoots and kills all enemies in your way, and he does it while shooting off funny one-liners.

Next best is the Groovitron. Toss it and watch your enemies dance. Then kill them. To note, each enemy has their own unique dance. Very cool.

There's the Transmorpher. It changes you enemies into penguins. Yes, penguins.

There's also Leach Bombs, Mega Leach Bomb, and and gas bomb that makes your enemies fight each other. One great one, that I haven't used yet, is a bomb that tracks and attaches to enemies and blows them up. I don't remember what it's called or how exactly it works since I have yet to use one. Sounds great, though. You get it at the end of the game.

There's also remote controlled helicopter, which I think is pointless. It's a neat idea, but doesn't really work for me. Expensive, too. I use it a few times. Didn't think much of it.

Gadgets

There are a lot of gadgets in the game, too. You can earn a few, but mostly you get them while playing. One of the funniest is a pirate costume you get to use to open secret doors on the pirate levels. You need to do a little dance before entering. Fun. There's one for locating walls that you can shoot with a geo-laser that Clank receives. Another for unlocking specially locked areas of the game. Once used, you rotate the controller to move a metal ball to complete a circuit which will unlock the door once complete. A real fun mini-game within the game, much like the pirate dancing.

The bot that tracks people is Mr Zircon. He's full of win. I'm on my 3rd play through.

Same here. I still don't know how to obtain the "I should have gone down in a barrel" skill point on Cobalia. I went down the tallest fall on a gel cube, and survived, but no luck. I'm missing a few others. I keep forgetting to check for skill points on planets, so this time, I making sure to check what I need at each planet.

I'm missing one Gold Bolt, and I don't care since the last skin is stooooopid. Oh, and it's a spaceship level Gold Bolt.

I bought the Gold Groovitron from the Device Vendor on planet Cobalia, and it's worth the 2,000,000 Raritanium. An endless supply of Groovitrons is starting to be a very good investment. Each character has their own dance move. Slugfish dance pretty well for a lower lifeform species.

I've got one half billion Bolts, and 3.2 million Raritanium on the first of two planets on my third playthrough. To bad I buy anything but ammo. I've got the 65% armor, which I think looks pretty cool.

I really enjoyed the demo. Would you consider this a rental or a purchases?

Since I have the two boys who both want to play it, a buy, for sure.

For you, it's you and your son? I'd say buy it, if you both liked the demo. I think on a four day weekend, one of you could complete the game. It'll take more than four days to beat it twice, though. 'Challenge Mode' is a lot fun.

But, the game has its glitches. So, you might want to wait until it goes on sale in a couple of months, but I have doubts it will.

It's a platformer, and I usually don't like them, but I couldn't pass up on this one. It was too much fun despite the annoying glitches.

It is a good platformer, but Jak and Daxter it ain't. My nephew's gonna have a lot of fun with it though.

Glitches? Maybe we're not playing the same game. Aside from the occasional sequence where you have to fight for control of the camera (which is not a glitch) and the insufficient space problem, I haven't seen any glitches...please enlighten me. More crazy shadows ala GT5P :P?

For the waterfall skill point, I'm pretty sure you just have to fall down all the waterfalls, not just the highest one.

Well, picked it up. Hope to get some healthy play time in tonight.... after this week, I need some good game play gratification....

Be careful for the load up glitch. One of several in the game.

Make sure you have something at least 500MB you want to get rid of. For some reason, no matter how much HDD space you have available, the game wont save a needed file before you can start playing.

It's installing the update... We'll see.

Installing now... So far just the gears rolling with no "out of space" error. How's your hard-drive's health?

It's just fine. I've never had a problem with it.

With 165GB of free space at the time I tried it, it's obviously not factory equipment. That could be the problem, I'm not sure.

A lot of people have reported this problem, so I'm not the only one.

It's the only problem. I'm still interested to hear about these 'glitches' you have, because I'm 100% positive they are related to your system and not the game. Otherwise I'd have heard more than just you report it (as a member of both NeoGAF and Insomniacgames.com forums, I think I'd hear about it if it were common place).

So please, I'd like for you to elaborate about these glitches you claim are so abundant in the game.

I'm running a 160gb HD but I have <80gb free. But yeah, no problem installing or saving games, etc.

Played it for about 6 hours last night. The only glitch I found was a box that stayed floating in the air after I hit the boxes below.

I don't consider that a glitch. That happens all the time. It's fun to see enemies just floating in mid-air after you hit them.

What I had were complete shutdowns of the game. Ratchet would get stuck, usually at or near the end of a level. No button function would work. He'd move in a 360 degree circle, but wont move forward and no way to get out of it but to reset the PS3. That's happened about 7-8 times, now.

There's also a "Weapon Screen" glitch on some levels. You pick one weapon, and when you're done selecting, you enter back into the game with a completely different weapon or item. Very, very annoying. Also, on certain levels, pressing the "fire" button, (circle button), noting would happen. That's very annoying when playing Challenge Mode where you need to prevent being hit to maximize your Bolts and Raritanium earned.

One last glitch is what I call the 'travel glitch' that happened a few times. When Ratchet travels somewhere, the game freezes. You'll need to start all over and usually need to do the level all over again since the game Autosaves at the beginning of a new level.

The game is still great, though. I'm still having a lot of fun while my third time through. I'm going for Skill Points, which can be super easy, or pretty tough.

One tip I should give you is, earn as much Raritanium as you can. Bolts are easy to get thanks to the Arena Battles. So, mod and use weapons that give you Raritanium, like the Lightning Avenger whip. It's a powerful, fun weapon and earns you a lot of Raritanium.

I had ALOT of fun with the lightning whip last night. By far my favorite weapon so far... :) Just got to the space station in the asteroid belt before I went to bed. This game was just what I needed after my hideous day yesterday. Bright colors, lots of explosions, big guns and weapons, easy but rewarding levels..... I like it!

rented the game and I have to agree that I haven't had this kind of good clean (comparatively :)) fun since my early PS2 days. Definitely a buy if I get some money
