Hi folks,

As you are no doubt aware by now, Flat-out (Cyril) is retiring as WRS Administrator and is passing the reins over to me (Colby). It's a daunting task but one I'm really looking forward to.

In my opinion Cyril has done a truly outstanding job as WRS Admin and I'm gonna struggle to even hold a candle up to the work he has done. I think Sphinx (Jerry) created a very neat tribute and if you haven't seen it then you need to have a look at his post here.

Basically, like Cyril posted here way back when he started as Admin, he sought to change the WRS race deadline in order to get results up more easily and I am looking to do the same. The problem is that unlike the minor change Cyril made, mine may seem a little drastic for people on the other side of the planet :)

I'd like to be able to do the posting of an evening because quite frankly, I would struggle to get it all done in the mornings. As it stands the WRS race deadline is (I think, I could have got this wrong, PLEASE let me know if I have...daylight savings is a killer!!!!):
  • -09 Los Angeles: Tuesday 13:00
  • -07 Toronto: Tuesday 15:00
  • -06 New York: Tuesday 16:00
  • -04 Brazil: Tuesday 18:00
  • +00 London: Tuesday 22:00
  • +01 Paris: Tuesday 23:00
  • +10 Melbourne: Wednesday 07:00
So 7 in the morning is not all that convenient for me and I propose those times are wound back 9 hours so I can do my posting at about the same time Cyril was doing it in Paris, i.e.
  • -09 Los Angeles: Tuesday 04:00
  • -07 Toronto: Tuesday 06:00
  • -06 New York: Tuesday 07:00
  • -04 Brazil: Tuesday 09:00
  • +00 London: Tuesday 13:00
  • +01 Paris: Tuesday 14:00
  • +10 Melbourne: Tuesday 22:00
I am aware that my proposal makes some of those submission times a bit awkward for some people to race right up until the deadline but it would make my life easier if this change were made.

I would appreciate your feedback on this either via the poll or by posting in this thread.

Thanks 👍

P.S Please note, it is a public poll and will be open for 5 days at this stage.

I like the idea, because (like Colby) it suits me better.

I think your times are a little wrong, but I forget how far Melbourne is behind Sydney…

I don’t have any objections, though. You’ve gotta do what you’ve gotta do.

To be honest, I would prefer it as it is, but like I have said to Colby already, I would prefer results to be immediately, which is easier for Colby then.
What I am trying to say is choose whatever makes it easier for you Colby, I really don't mind. I understand your difficulties trying to do it at 7am

Yeah I've confused myself with all these times :) All I know is for me, here in Canberra, I usually get to my computer at about 7:30am on Wednesday morning and the results thread looks to have been created at about 7am? But I could be wrong...maybe it's earlier...my brain hurts

I think you should decide yourself, seeing that 7AM isn't a very convinient time to post results.

However, seeing that I only have access to a PS2 on sunday to tuesday (only three days), those Tuesday sessions are pretty important - and while in Paris it'll be at 14:00, in my place it would be 13:00 - the time I finish school... So why not move the deadline forwards? 9, 15, whatever you need - It'll land at the same time for everyone, only a day forward... Or wait a while, I have no problen with it - but No Tuesday would restrict me too much, so I voted on the no move.
Sorry.

No problem here Colby.

It makes it harder for me as there'll be no more last minute dashes to the line and I'll have to submit Monday night or Tuesday morning before work? (Unlikely as I'm usually rushing out the door at the last minute after beating the alarm clock to a pulp for half an hour.) :ouch:

But then I haven't got the admin to do so you do what you've gotta do Colby. 👍

Darren.

Instead of looking at it that you cant race until the deadline, you can now race it a day earlier! As soon as you wake up the results and the new combo will be posted!.

I know im not really "apart" of the WRS anymore, but honestly if thats what Colby needs to do then thats what he will do. It makes a major difference to him to change the time and a minor difference to the competitors.

Go ahead Colby 👍

But half a week in between still makes a big difference...

Good point though. And after all, Colby can decide what he wants - as long as he keeps those fresh, addicting Combos coming, he can do as he pleases with the deadline... I'll still race.

Wednesday's still better for me (although, it seems, less for others).

Well, for starters, I'd like to see the WRS remain as un-changed as possible.

That said,
I voted to move it 9 hours.
When I toook over the deadline was changed. When CFM took over the deadline was changed. When Cyril took over the deadline was changed. Now with you taking over, the deadline will change.

Face it, you are doing work for us Colby.
That means the priority needs to be "getting that work done" and since you work as a volunteer doing a job only a few would do, I say you do whatever you need to do. 👍

Move it back 9 hours, move it back 2 hours... Doesn't matter to me.
I just want to see you settle on a time that works for you because we need you to be comfortable with the work ahead of you.

We can adjust to your needs much easier than you think... But you adjusting to the work on the other hand, that's a whole lot harder. :ouch:

Do what you need to do Colby. 👍

Tuesday 22:00 Colby's time is fine by me.

But would it be possible to post the new race Mondayearlyevening Europe time.

I asked that very question last year, and Kent had made the same answer he made now which is the only answer that makes sense : choose whatever is convenient to you.
Racers will still have 168 hours to practice.

Posting the next race a bit in advance is always appreciated by people who have already submitted or don't like the combo much.

I will endeavour to post the new race early like Cyril did, so rather than 22:00 on Tuesday I can probably do that in the morning so something like 07:00 on Tuesday 👍

P.S My apologies about the generalisations with time zones, I've changed the list to be more accurate :sly:

You've got all the stress and work to do, you decide 👍

Jerome

So instead of 5PM for me it will be 9AM? I guess it does not matter because
I send in my times a day before they are needed anyways. I say go for it.

colby, congrats to being the new wrs steward. i wish you wisdom and strength (and race surprises HAHA).

i voted for YOU DECIDE since it's a heavy job as it is and this deadline thinghy should be convenient for you.

now you're taking over from good ol' cyril, i even more than earlier hope that we're cool after the almost-nasty discussion we had earlier.

good luck on wrs'ing us around the year, weary mister!

Well with just over 24 hours until this poll closes it appears that the majority of people are fairly satisfied with me changing the deadline.

PLEASE NOTE:
Eastern Australia today began Daylight Savings and I believe Europe ended Daylight Savings and therefore the times I proposed in the initial post are now incorrect. From what I can gather the deadline (should people still be in support of the change) will be:
  • -07 Los Angeles: Tuesday 04:00
  • -05 Toronto: Tuesday 06:00
  • -04 New York/Brazil?: Tuesday 07:00
  • +00 London: Tuesday 11:00
  • +01 Paris/Berlin/Rome: Tuesday 12:00
  • +11 Sydney/Melbourne: Tuesday 22:00
During next weeks race I will endeavour to provide plenty of reminders of the correct due date.

Cheers 👍

You're correct about the end of DST in Europe Colby. Well, at least in France, we changed time last night.
Your post above is shown to me as posted Today, 5:32 AM.

P.S. : This is also the best time if you want to change the deadline date too Colby. It was set to tuesdays by Kent when we switched from GT3 to GT4, and if was fine for CFM then for me, but there's no reason to keep it that way other than tradition. If you'd rather post new races and results in the week end just post a longer race next week to implement the new deadline.

I had contemplated the idea of moving the result time to Sunday but I think I'll stick with the Tuesday (at least for now). It's not a problem for me and has less of an impact on all WRS'ers.

your call mate, but if you want to implement a change like day-of-the-week then i would say now is the time to do it. i guess wrs members expect changes with the handover from cyril to you but lateron maybe less.
just my €0.02.

Yes Cyril, we in the UK changed to GMT +0 last night too, so Colby's post shows at 4.32 AM.

Yeah the UK has just gone back to GMT from BST (GMT+1).
The old deadline was 9PM GMT (10PM BST) Tuesday, so if you are knocking 9 hours off that time then it should logically be 12PM Midday, 1200Hrs not 11 AM.

Just thought I'd mention like!:)

Oh I don't mind the change either!:sly:

Neil

You are correct Neil, my original proposal meant a 9 hour change. However to keep the 10pm submission time for me during Daylight Savings it will need to move to the times I've posted above for the next few months 👍

Never put any thought into the deadline day but if you need to change it to suit your RL schedule Colby go ahead. 👍

I'd say change it now if you need to, get everything sorted out in the first week to save confusion later on, (the clocks changing are gonna mess me up enough as it is). :dopey:

Darren.
