Real Racing Sim - Sunday Endurance Race

General info about races: Our goal is to provide a racing simulation experience for everyone. Real off-road grip, weak slipstream, tire wear on, and yes, heavy damage! ABS is optional.

The potential for damage encourages respect and sportsmanship among everyone, making penalties unnecessary -- GT5's penalty system is easily gamed, often penalizes the victim and does nothing to further the "racing simulation".

The races are usually long enough to require at least one pit for tires and/or gas depending on the car. We also enjoy racing real life cars, and offer a wide range of racing experiences, from VW Buses to F1's, some tuned, some untuned, you name it. Feel free to check out the Facebook ( http://tinyurl.com/GT5-LPP ) page to post race suggestions and say hello!

Date & Time: Sun July 8, 9:00 PM EDT / Sun July 8, 6:00 PM PDT / Mon July 9, 1:00 AM GMT Time zone converter here

Race length: 70 minutes (not including qualifying)

Requirements: Clean and fair drivers

Course:
Rome Circuit

Room & Car regulations:
(Premium) Tesla Motors Tesla Roadster '08
rkbus7.jpg

Sports hard tires max
1230 kilograms minimum weight
Everything else is fair game

  • False starts on
  • Heavy damage
  • No penalties
  • Weak slipstream
  • Tire wear/Fuel consumption on
  • Real grip reduction on wet/edge
  • Visual damage on
  • ABS available
  • All other assists off

Qualifying: Qualifying begins as soon as the room is open, will last 15 to 30 minutes.

Because of connection issues and how the game records times, once you have a qualifying time you like, please do not leave or exit the track. Park in the sand or sit in the pits.

Before qualifying ends, I will record everyone's best lap and then call out people to join the track again in the order of qualified position.

Prizes:
  • First place (Lvl 9 car ticket, 5 car paints)
  • Second place (5 car paints)

Actual race notes: Once the "start race" timer finishes, the race is on. No warm up laps. Be aware that people might false start so you may have to avoid some people in the beginning.

Going into the pits will "recharge/replace" the Tesla's battery. This usually takes an extra two minutes.

Other notes: For the most part, the GTPlanet Online Racing Rules & Guidelines apply with some changes.
  1. Bump drafting is allowed where it makes sense.
  2. Keep moving on the track, regardless of incident, unless cars behind you are approaching. Time, depending on severity of incident, will be added to your final race time once complaints are filed and replays checked.
  3. Drivers that are to be lapped are under no obligations to move out of the way, as long as they are not intentionally blocking. Most tracks have many sections to overtake. If you're faster, you'll find a way to pass.
  4. Track boundaries are generally the same as those enforced by the GT5 penalty system and as defined by section 16: Offline Racing in the GTPlanet Online Racing Rules linked above. See the illustration below. Occasional unintended incursions will be tolerated, particularly if you visibly attempt to correct a bad line by braking, etc. or you have lost control of your vehicle. Patterns of abuse will not be tolerated, and complaints will be investigated as noted in #2 above.

I'll likely be making this one as well. It should be pretty close, given that the identical power and transmission will really make it depend on driver skill and suspension set-ups.

It should be interesting. I've always wanted to do a longer electric car race, but previous versions of GT5 didn't give you a chance to recharge the battery lol

Speaking of recharging the battery, I was just in my first real practice for this race (usually I just run short races at the track so I get paid while I tune) and when I went in for a pit stop after just one lap, the car sat there for almost two minutes. Is that normal and what will happen at this event? That'll feel like forever during a race like this.

Yeah that's normal. I made a comment about it in the race notes. If all goes well, you should probably only have to pit once lol

That was an exciting race! I thought I was in for a sequel to that TVR race when I tapped that wall on lap one, and I felt awful about the incident it also caused on lap two.

I was almost two laps down at one point, and I ran my battery down to nothing on lap 26 or 27; I have no idea how I managed to win this one. Great racing, everyone!

Definitely an interesting/fun race. There were some nice laps where I was chasing or being chased. Most of the time I'm usually just by myself, but not so much here lol.
