There seems to be many "GT6 vs. Real Life" threads for cars, but none for tracks and locations, which have all been painstakingly and accurately modeled by PD! So let me start with this:

Valencia - City of Arts and Sciences

They even modeled the surrounding buildings accurately (though not in much detail)

You can also see side-by-side comparisons of Bern and Lucerne in my GT5 gallery.

I really wish that PD kept Lucerne and Bern for GT6

Yeah...still don't get why they removed all the photomode locations from GT5...

Did you take these yourself as well? Nice effort matching the GT6 shots 👍

Yes indeed! Thanks :)

Anyhow, here's a side-by-side comparison of Madrid. It was a lot harder to get the angles/perspectives right since you're restricted to only "walking" on the road in the game.

Even the smallest details were accurately recreated!

I always found the hot afternoon lighting on the Madrid track terrible, this comparision really shows how nice it could look at another day time. Well done again, cool to see all the details! :)

Oh, one thing, by my question if you took the photos yourself I meant the real ones. I imagine it's got to be amazing to visit those places and recognize sights and locations.

Thanks KiroKai :) PD should've just implemented dynamic time for every track... would've looked much better I think. And yes, I took all the photos myself! I've been travelling around Europe a lot recently, so I've stopped by various locations from Gran Turismo...it is indeed quite an amazing experience, to see these locations in person and realize just how ridiculously accurate they are in GT. It always feels as if I've visited these places before

Asides from Bern, Lucerne, Madrid, and Valencia, I also plan on making a side-by-side comparison of the Red Bull Hangar 7, San Gimigiano, Rome, London, Monaco, and Ronda...so keep an eye out for updates! ;)

That sounds extremely nice! It's one of my goals to be able to travel to London and Monaco, and I'd love to explore Ahrweiler while visiting the Nürburgring. The Red Bull Hangar could be a very interesting location in person as well.

You make me nostalgic about GT5's photo travel... those locations were so much more unique and remarkable than GT6's, aside from the City of Arts and Sciences.

Amazing! Very well done work once again.

Yesterday I coincidentally came across this MotorTrend article from Dec 2013. To be more specific, the photos in it. Going through them I noticed there are some taken in the City of Arts and Sciences in Valencia! It's amazing to see professional photos of the real version of that location, especially in this beautiful evening setting and with such a car posing for the camera. To be honest, it looks much better to me than GT6's version.

There's more photos from that location in the full gallery of this article over at MotorTrend. I believe these photos were taken by a photographer for Porsche Spain themselves as they appear in various 918 articles and the MotorTrend article features lots of different 918s in 'their' photos. I couldn't find a more 'original' source for these photos, so going through MT's gallery will have to do I guess.

We could try to reproduce these photos in GT6, however I don't think results will come even close (read: look a lot worse) without major editing. These are probably heavily edited press photos, but even when you disregard that, the time of day is much later in GT6 and thus the whole lighting of the location is different. If anything, we could show that GT6 features a pretty realistic replica of the architecture, except any surfaces that appear white and clean here have that weird dark pattern all over them. Let alone texture quality, reflection quality, the lack of... well, Porsche. And it goes on...

Buuut back to the point of this, it's great to see the beauty of this location. At the same time it's a bit sad to see how much better it could look in-game... if you're going to try and compare real Monaco vs GT you're going to experience this effect very strongly. Shmee has driven a lap of the real Monaco circuit streets on a normal day, of course GT cannot simulate this much, but just noticing how much different the roads are in person really shows how old and outdated the track in GT is.

Told you Monaco will disappoint. :sly:

Rome looks very nice, didn't expect the roads to be accurate. London isn't too bad, but the size in the game is ridiculous. Once again, well done job at taking comparable photos!

Should also note that with Monaco that there is excessive Armco around certain corners in the swimming pool area, and also the chicane after the tunnel is a bit off. I think this is in part to discourage corner cutting, to the point of making those corners possibly even more difficult. Silly how high up the hairpin kerb is in GT6. Again, probably to prevent people getting super close to that wall outside of the sidewalk.

fantastic job man, especially with recreating the photos in game. i find it interesting on rome where they kept the surroundings accurate and still fit a track in there. it's one of my favorites.

Awesome Job. Something to keep in mind, I am sure that many of the logos and details are left out of the game because I am sure it is a source of revenue for the GT franchise, if the companies (as McD) do not want to fetch the dollars, I'm sure that is a reason why some details is left out.

even with the lack of high detail. I think the game does a fantastic job with the look and feel of all the cities and tracks.

When is Tokyo scheduled?
