Really shopping for a wheel

Okay...first off.
I'm not going to spend $300 for the G27.
I get that it is the premiere wheel, but at $300, I really don't need to spend my money like that.

I'm looking at the Driving Force GT. I'm also open for any other Logitech wheels, such as the G25.

Second of all, I want pedals. Turning a wheel while using buttons to control the car isn't my forte. I don't necessarily need a clutch pedal, but a shifter would be nice. Either being a paddle shifter or a stick shifter, either works.

Third, I would like to use it for other games. I have Burnout Paradise, Need for Speed: Shift, and quite possibly Driver: San Fransisco, Test Drive Unlimited 2, and Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit. And a side note, I know that Motorstorm (Original one and Pacific Rift) are arcade racing games, but would a wheel work on those?

Anyways, any new info is appreciated. Criticism is good. Don't put one wheel above the other, per say. Please state the quality of the work, the value, and the durability.

Also, I want to be able to mount this. The cord distance won't be an issue. I'm definently not going to buy a racing "cockpit" for it. I'd probably use a table or build a rig for it.

Thanks,

I suggest either a DFGT or a G25. The DFGT is a bit more precise and more compatible with GT5. The G25 has better FFB and smoother operation, and better pedals. Outside of occasional issues with the shifter module of the G25, both wheels are pretty durable. Logitech sorted out the issues with the pedals that plagued the DFP when they were making the DFGT, so that isn't an issue.
It really comes down to what you want to spend. DFGTs can be had for under $100 all day long. G25s usually only go as low as $175 or so, but then again they have a lot more features (though, many of those features aren't always supported by PS3 games).

Motorstorm is kinda iffy on DFGT support. Pacific Rift may be better, but I don't really know.

Depends how serious you are. If you are a serious gamer then get the g25 but by the sound of what you have said the dfgt would be just fine. I have one they are great wheels and will not let you down and still have lots of good features (900 degree steering) at a much more reasonable price than the g25.

dfgt, or get fanatec carrera when that comes out soon. or get a g25. if you spend a decent amount of time racing, you won't regret putting money into some nice pedals and a nice steering wheel.

I would wait for the Carrera Wheel, from Fanatec, to come out. Will be slightly more than a DFGT, but less than the G25. Yet it has more features than both combined.

Full 6 speed shifter/clutch, fully adjustable steering ratio (from 90 to 900), adjustable deadzone/linearity, Drift, PS3/PC compatible.

I've tried all 3 wheels (DFGT, G25, Fanatec PWC), and the Carrera Wheel is easily the best bang for the buck.

;)

Check out your local craigslist if you want one cheap, usually sell for $50 for a good FF wheel.

I have owned momo's and the dfgt. I love my dfgt it feels great, its made for gt5p and gt5....but...no clutch and non realistic shifter. Your call man, Id go up a level to the fanatec from what I know about it you cant lose. Once my simulator is built I will splurge and by one with a good shifter and clutch.

But really the dfgt at 99 bucks is insainly a great value as its solid if you dont have to have a clutch\6speed.

Either way youre not picking up chicks with it ;-)

Motorstorm support for a wheel is only semi-existent. The game uses L2/R2 for acceleration and braking and that layout cannot be remapped. This means that the pedals will not work (they just rotate the camera).

Also, wheels that are 900 degrees that cannot be lowered (DFGT, I don't know about G25) do not work well because it takes a lot to make the vehicles turn. My friend was trying out his copy with the GT3RS V2, ended up at 180 degree steering.

Anyways, I have not tried the Carrera but if you are not in a rush I suggest waiting for it. Even if you don't care about the extra features or if you end up not liking it when it comes out it is worth the wait just to be sure. Say you buy the DFGT or G25 now and when the Carrera comes out you love it, then the DFGT/G25 would have been a waste of money.

Ok, thanks guys. Looks like the dfgt will be the wheel for me. I'm an avid gamer, but I've been wanting to step up my racing expertise. I want to get some practice with it before GT5 comes out, but not going to buy it tomorrow. Anyways, I already have a real car, all I need is my real license, which I shall get 2 days after the world melts because of GT5, on 11/4.

Thanks, and I'll see you on the track

if you go for a g25 you wont regret it, dont forget to factor in a decent stand to mount it on as well, the wheel stand pro is ideal.

So are you saying he should take up golf?
It is fun but don't like the dress code.

Karting is better :)

Anyways, you will enjoy it I am sure. My time with the DFGT has been wonderful, it has definitely treated me well since I started using it I have no regrets.

Just make sure you do not pay MSRP on it, Logitech always has a crazy high MSRP on their products. It seems to go on sale quite a bit in Canada, so keep your eyes open over there too to see if you can get an even better sale price.

you can always wait for a logitech g25/g27 to go on sell somewhere. a couple months ago best buy had a sell on the g27 for 150$ I honestly wouldn't go with any other wheel.

G27 is readily available around $200 - $220, all you need is to look for deals.
Good places to look; slickdeals.com, couponcabin.com and many many more

I'm assuming the Carrera wheel comes without pedals?
