Rear wings in GT Auto question

Is there any real difference in the various rear wings you can buy in GT Auto? Do the big fat chunky ones to the right of the list provide more downforce/drag than the ones to the left, or is the difference purely cosmetic?

I don't think there is a difference, as the maximum downforce is 30 for all of them.

They all cost the same right? Then they're the same!

Yes it turns out they probably are, but the fact that they all cost the same does not automatically say they are the same. A large wing might give you more downforce but also more drag, so it doesn't necessarely mean that the biggest wing is the best one for you.

i dont think they implemented that into the game though. they just have 4 or 5 different styles to please ricers/make ones suitable for cars

anyone notice that the mazda 6 touring car can have its wing changed? :dopey:

and the red KENWOOD NSX from the superspeedway enduero can have its wing changed(thank god for that:)).The wheels can be changed to:)

Mate, these wings are'nt meant for ricers liking. Take a look at the vast majority of (real-life) highly modified Japanese tuners cars and you'll see most of them have huge wings like the GT4 ones.

Need For Speed, Juiced, Midnight Club etc are meant for 'ricers'.

I just wanna have fun with this.

But really, it would have been nice if there were atleast a few colors (and not shades) to choose from for the spoilers.

Ya, if they were catering to the ricers, there would be a 6" exhaust tip upgrade, a high performance sticker kit, and fire extinguishers that look like NOS bottles.

To me, since there's no Racing Modifications (I'm not mad), this has been my finishing touch on my performance tuners. In another thread, I shared the cars I had bought for tuning purposes to compete in Family Cup races and some other events. Some of my machines have been retired (sold). I just don't like having a car fully tuned and not have at least LOOK like it means business. That's one of the things I didn't really like about Gran Turismo 3.

Of course, if the wings look right, I'll be sure to get the proper wing for the car in question. Of course, some cars can be tuned with wings, some cannot. I recently bought a car for tuning purposes which cannot be fitted with a rear wing- a [/I]Burgundy Metallic[/I] 1969 Camaro SS. I was torn between whatever two dark blue colors until I say this nice red color for it. Looks black from many angles, until you notice that little hint of burgundy. Anyhow, most cars cannot be fitted with a wing. I usually don't tune aerodynamics, but it's there if I need it for most cars.

It's a shame there's no option to match the wing to car colour, even though that would probably look very ugly in most cases. A few more styles or even being able to choose the placement of the supports would be good.

it also seems curious that you can adjust the front downforce after only fitting a rear spoiler...

i've only found a handful of cars that look halfway decent with the list of wings GT4 has provided. True, those probably help on 800HP machines used in high speed races, but for slightly tuned cars in the 250-400 HP range that need just a touch more downforce, they should have included smaller factory looking spoilers...or possibly the option to remove them completey. It'd be pretty cool to be able to swap out spoilers from different cars to get the perfect look. Kind of like the daily specials in the wheels section...just a thought...

I remember back when PD said there'd be downloadable modifications to GT4. I curse them in their haste to release this game. Mostly cause I got the game late anywho. :D Some things were done hastily and it shows. I think if PD were to perfect GT5, they'd look here at our complaints and suggestions.

oh! *hint hint, wink wink PD!*

lol if you want a good laugh put a wing on a PT CRUISER, it has what looks like suction cups holding it to the back window 👍

Really wish they offered some more subtle wings, or at least full kit packages like Kaido 2.

I agree... not only that, these are "touring" style wings, hence the name, gran "turismo". I'd say more then just cosmetic but for better performance (downforce).

Yeah there should be an option at the start of the list of wings that says return to standard or something like that.

You cannot remove a standard wing though.

You're absoultely right, Brock. I guess any wing in black is always "in fashion" for your car. You know, like almost anything you wear would almost always be in fashion with your black shoes. It does kind of suck that there's only black, silver, and gray. But here's my question. What color wing do you go for when you have a dark-colored car? a bright-colored car? a car with a chameleon-style paint color? All I know is that if I have a white car, I usually get a white wing. Bright silver cars would likely get a white wing from me. Now if GT wanted to be completely technical, you could have wind tunnel testing and then modify your car to fit it with the correct wing. So if you have a real powerful car and need serious downforce, you'd get winglets, splitters, and a Le Mans-style rear wing. This is just as long as you don't have something like the 1999 Mercedes-Benz GT1 racers or a sport compact not tuned to take advantage of serious speeds. If you could modify your cars into pure racers, I'd like to see some overfender options as well as hood and bumper options. This is a la Tokyo Xtreme Racer. I know all the cars wouldn't take advantage of this, but I guess if Forza gives you this freedom, why not GT?

All I can say is, if it's made for performance and you can fit a wing on it, then go for it. Don't be scared. Let the pack know you have something for real.

really suits some cars and some look awful!

if the car is too narrow it seems the wing is twice as wide...

I actually like the look of that dark red Clio with white wheels/wing. 👍

A couple of my rides with wings attached:

8.7 second R32 GT-R V-Spec

Also got a 'boy racer' old shape CRX which has a huge, ugly spoiler, chrome wheels and completely lowered. :D

dark red clio + white alloys + white wing = big mistake.

oh yes.........what a big mistake, just becoz u poms get offended by everything doesnt mean you have 2 go start dissing cars that are better than your country's. What the **** is wrong with it? it looks better than any of your crappy british hatches

To Mustang-man:

um yeah... I don't think he's having a go at the car or it's counrty of origin, more the colour combination, which tbh would probably look obscene on any vehicle. but hey there's no accounting for taste! ;)

black wing + black wheels almost always looks good on any colour car, but white + white only seems to work on a few car & colour combinations.
