Reason for the Delay

Obviously to create as much internet buzz as possible for almost two years since the release to keep everyone hanging, then release it so there was a renewed interest in the game which would provide a big cushion so when GT7 doesn't come out til late 2017 it doesn't matter.

Derp.

No one here knows.

Edit: And if anyone does, they aren't saying why.

Reason why people keep asking this question is because they often forget the phrase "easier said than done". Why don't you try being a programmer/coding a video game for a change, see how it feels.

Besides, it's already here now. Why would you even bother asking?

Well, some people on this forum were part of the gaming insdustry and they
ask the same question too.

I remember Famine saying there was no technological reason for the Course Maker not appearing on PS3. He also said, that when Kaz said it took "more work than expected", it referred not to work that was technical in nature, but more to do with where the work was being done. Furthermore, whatever the reason was, it was apparently a good reason, and that if he were PDI, he would let people know, because we would appreciate the the fact there had been a delay because the reason for it is entirely valid.

who cares about the reason its delayed at least we got it which is the main thing

Well not all of us did. I don't have a tablet. I'm not going to spend money even if it is only £40 on a tablet for using with this track creator or frig around with my phone just to get the app in. I'm not complaining, I'm just not bothered having seen the app and driven the results. If I want to drive the likes of classic Hockenheim I'll wait for the classic track pack in Project Cars.

I thought the track creator might keep me interested in GT6 again for at least a few days. I honestly think the creator and user made tracks in Little Big Planet Karting are better and more entertaining. Anyway it is what it is. Back to driving on the PS4/PC for me.

You don't need a tablet.

You don't need a tablet.

It doesn't work with my 18 month old HTC smartphone. It doesn't work with my ipod touch. It doesn't work with my PS3.

I'm also not running emulation software on my rickety, fragile GTR2 PC. If there's an easy safe way I'll try it out.

When a feature is advertised as part of a suite and people pay money for said software and platform (GT6 & PS3) they have an expectation that the publisher will make good on the promotion - but for the publisher to then later require a second independent hardware purchase to use the originally promoted tool/option is actually a deceptive trade practice.

This bait & switch nonsense is slowly killing the GT franchise. Many folks I know that where die hard GT fans have given up and moved on.

Instead of going after VW for cheating on their Diesel engine software, they should go after Kaz, PD & Sony for these types of dirty tricks. :)

I have not received any further clues, no.Have you tried sideloading it?

Ah, no you've not received any more clues but you've known for a while. I thought you'd be able to give us a few clues after release?

Have you tried sideloading it?

No I haven't. A genuine thanks to all for the help but I'm not going to risk anything non official on my phone. I'll just have to give it a miss. I did try a few more friends tracks. Imola, Sebring, Shanghai, Hockenheim, Watkins Glen, Road America and more. Unfortunately Circuit of The Americas and Montreal were in reverse. Driving them all does feel very reminiscent of the GT5 tracks. All tracks have that same characterless feel. Anyway, 2 days login bonus for the first time in a long time.

Cheers.

Edit: I've depurpleised Famine.

To make something is easy ..to make something future proof...takes a lot longer...think about it boys..it's not hard to work out....the big test for this app comes when they insert new themes and new larger landscapes maps...so far it's rock solid.....in GT6

So um...what was the understandable reason for the delay of the course maker?

What do you want? Fact or fiction?

And what would be 'understandable'? One man's understanding is another's misunderstanding.

We could assume. We could hazard a guess. We can't expect a factual answer that would not have already been out through the proper channels by the proper spokespeople.

If I were to assume, I would first assume that there was no 'delay.' The timing was about right; mobile apps are now everyday consumption. If there was any delay it may have been for the same reason that TDU2 has generic buildings.
When one brings GPS into play, a lot of legalities are involved.
I may not want my house beside that track. It has my business sign on it; how dare PD advertise me.
Without my permission. :sly:

In fact if one could make a track with elevation and buildings that closely resemble a real track, logos, signs, and all, then those track-makers are going to capitalise on that and want some dollars, too.

Hence a flat track only, for that purpose, that would avoid such litigative problems.

Would you like a couple of popular fast food restaurants and a pizza joint in the toolbox of items? They'll be generic.
Both sides will play the game - eventually some brands will pay to have their items as 'stands' beside the tracks.

These may have been all the games played behind-the-scenes as lawyers battled out the techno-laws that governs this new product.

Does any other games-maker have the right to make a Track Path Editor similar to this? What would be the delay for them?

As someone who was waiting for it, i can only assume that the PS3's limitations were possibly the problem. Maybe with the Octacore CPU and GPU of the PS4 they could have released it on the next GT.

All I know is that the App needs heavy support on PD's side for sure. there are still things missing from it that would make it a complete track editor,
For example:
full control of elevations and undulations
Full control of track barriers
Full control of turn radii
more texture support like buildings and overhead roads and stands

I remind everyone here that @Famine mentioned that PD had a "very good reason" for the delay, but he couldn't say what, presumably because NDAs and other legal crap. I'd bet money it had to do with the GPS feature.

(Also, 1,000 posts! Oh yeah!)

There is nothing about the current tablet iteration of the TPE that couldn't be done on a PS3, with the exception of (maybe) the image and basic GPS data importing. All the app is doing is giving instruction to the PS3 on how to design the level; that's why the transfer is so quick.

The touchscreen interface is arguably the big reason why the current approach was chosen, since a controller can't match that accessibility, but a controller can be a lot more precise. I suppose the Move could've done basically the same thing, but I can't even imagine what uproar would've resulted in PD making that a requirement.

Reason is Apple.

Apple were worried that their devices would be used to reproduce copyrighted material (real world layouts)**

**as legit as any other reason that's been dreamed up

I don't see how the GPS feature can be a reason for the delay when it was an additional part of it. The app could have easily launched without the GPX import part.

What gps feature?
The GPX import feature that allows you to recreate real-life tracks on Eifel Flat.
I don't see how the GPS feature can be a reason for the delay when it was an additional part of it. The app could have easily launched without the GPX import part.
But then, because they lack any form of understanding or sympathy (not saying it's you, mind), certain members of the community would be yelling at him for not including the GPX importer with the Course Creator on day one. So it's either get yelled at for delaying the Course Creator until the GPX import feature is finished, or release the Course Creator without the GPX importer and get yelled at for delivering "yet another" incomplete product. Talk about a rock and a hard place.
