Rebounding from GT5 to Shift 2? Be Careful ...

It's hard to believe how... SMS would have to take just about every single element that was ALREADY better than GT5 in the original Shift, and drop it.

I doubt we are going to see them take that big a page out of the PD gamebook!

sorry i forgot n't... it was " can't be worse".. i was not focused when writing.

Like I said earlier, no X360 so no Forza for me and besides Dirt is focused on rally so it's a bit too specialized for my taste. Same with F1, a bit too specialized.

That's fine. But it means that there are good racing games coming this year, just not on a system that JediRage owns or in a discipline that he's interested in.

If you're going to have narrow tastes in racing, you're going to have a limited amount of games to choose from. That's perfectly OK, you buy games that you like. But the claim that there are no good racing games apart from Shift coming out in the near future is blatantly false.

Making a big deal of me not putting in 'IMO' or 'for me', are we? Calm down dude.

Better phrase might have been "There are no good racing games LIKE Shift coming out in the near future"

Rally is a totally different discipline, and F1 is a VERY narrow discipline.

And, particularly on the PS3, without Forza to compete, it's hard to imagine what is going to compare with it.

Maybe GT5, if Kaz-san wakes his 🤬 up and FINALLY patches it into a good game. Mind you, that's going to take an almost complete re-write of the AI, the online system, and the entire game structure. Regretfully, I am not expecting it...

That might happen but in GT6 or a payed DLC - now they will only fix small things, little ajustments and the crappy seasonals just to keep the gamers saying - woow PD really provides a good post release service - I rather have them providing a full good game on release....

I'll be juggling both games. Although I am very interested to see what the community will do for the drifting community :D

I'd be selling my PD stock before a GT6 release if PD DON'T get GT5 up to snuff before they want MORE money from you... :sly:

Rebounding from GT5 to shift?

What about the many people who rebounded off GT4 to GT5. I bet they were shocked more TBH.

You have a point. Shift 2 has Bathhurst and The Ring and more than likely Spa. I will be open a purchase as well if reviews are descent. GT5 has let me down. I already went to F1 2010 due the lack of gameplay with with GT5.

Shift 2 Unleashed seems, at least so far, to be nothing but an upwards progression from Shift 1. I have yet to hear of anything nerfed from the previous title. Nothing dropped, only improved.

Contrast that to the GT4 to GT5 debacle. More good game features DROPPED than added..!

About the review websites. Sure, they try to get though games quickly and I've disagreed with them on many games but most of the time they are spot on. Early in my ownership of the PS3, IGN totally ripped into LAIR(Dragon game). I got it to see what the fuss was and I liked it initially and disagreed with the review but after a few days I understood why the game was scored so low.

They proved it with the GT5 review and because of that I've held off buying KZ3(And the fact I can't stand the ISA, Sev and Rico).

I tend to disagree with them when they over rate games (COD:MW2, KZ2, Halo, God of War, Gears of War etc.) but they've started to cut down on that too.

Anyway off topic, but aside from Shift 2 I don't see any good racing game coming anytime soon. This is just like when I was waiting for YEARS to get a decent football game. Thankfully got it with FIFA 10.

Xplay is the only reviewer that I typically agree with. IGN is completely biased against developers/consoles. Not to mention the fact that they don't even use the averages of scores for the final number, but rather whatever the person writing it feels like giving the game. Gamespot is slow as hell to get a review out for some games and even then it's still just the same thing rehashed.

Thing is, few of these reviewers play the game long enough to get a feel for progression. GT5's ridiculous grind at the upper levels escaped them all, AFAIK.

I wish GameTrailers would improve their video display settings. It doesn't load like youtube does and if you don't have a fast connection, there is no way you can watch trailers/reviews.

As a motorsport fan - will i like Shift 2 better?

Love FIA GT and I know that it will be on the game but is it a realistic championship or will it be like the DTM, etc, on GT5? I don't like the way I read that you 'have to beat Jamie Campbell Walter' in GT1 to take the crown - as if he's some pumped up quicker than the others rival? Will they have a custom option to just a run a FIA GT championship do you think or will it just be another movie style career mode?

Obviously the circuits are a real plus point.

I apologise if this has been covered...

Hoping to see a demo prior to release. I didn't really care for the first one and sold it about 2 weeks after I bought it. Really just hoping for better physics.

They've stated that there won't be a pre-release demo.

Either wait for a post release demo or rent it if you can. You could watch reviews but the initial reviews for Shift 1 were pretty unreliable. If you have doubts, you should wait until you can try it for yourself.

I think a lot of damage was caused to Shift 1 by people buying without having tried it, and it not being what they expected (general bugginess at release excepted). I really recommend anyone who has doubts to wait a week after release, see what the general reviews and reaction from the community is, get your hands on a test copy if you can and watch all the gameplay footage that will inevitably be put up. I think it's better for everybody if you buy a week later once you're sure it's a game you want, rather than rolling the dice on a game you're unsure about.

Good question, Nobody know the answer atm, GT1 championship is supposed to be the final stage of career mode.

@ Op I loved GT5 physics but I have an alternative title for this thread:

Rebounding from Gran Turismo Shadow Pixel 5 to Shift 2, Finally A Couple Of Decent Shadows, Unleashed :)

Let's not forget the "we fixed the game, we put out a new demo, try it!11!" demo update which wasn't actually the 1.02 megapatch version, just the 1.01 update, despite coming out after 1.02. Whoops!

I've blown 60 bucks in a lot worse ways. I'll get it for the tracks and cars alone. I'm burnt out on GT5 at the moment. I keep hoping PD will give us some new premiums and some of the classic tracks in an update, heck, I'd pay for a decent DLC.

I have to agree with almost all of this. Just having that many new tracks to learn even if things just become 80% GT5 and 20% Shift 2 at least I will have a dozen new tracks to learn and most are real not fantasy.

I only know I'm buying it (pre-ordered it 2 weeks ago)

How can anyone say a game is going to be good or bad? Are these people psychics? If so PM me :D

I understand reluctant but I don't understand radical or fanaticism. Besides one ages faster when grumpy :)

It looks like its going to be a good game.
It looks good on my screen.
It seems that a lot of work has been put into it (less time to develop might just indicate they're more efficient than PD)
It looks like the helmet cam will rock and mess up my brain (one way or another :D)
It looks like i'm going to own that blancpain lambo (bad luck in Dubai :( )
it makes drifting look like a real sport :D (even thou it takes lots of skill)
It has Brno (long time favourite track and I hope Portimão make it to the game)
I'm certain it will be fun and that's more than enough for me

It looks like *FINALLY* GT5 will get out of my PS3 for the 1st time in months :D (but not for good)

Where did you pre order? Im also in portugal and cant seem to find anywhere to pre order...:indiff:

I'm liking all the customization that you will be able to do in shift 2, and though I'm not sure at this point but the racing layout has to be better then GT5 (races, not the feel of racing) from what I've read the whole layout will be a lot better then GT5.

I've already pre ordered SHIFT 2, DIRT 3 (kinda iffy with that one), and FORZA 4

As much as I'm pissed off at how GT5 turned out, I can not deny that the cars (premium any way) and the feel while racing looks and feels great (but the look of the smoke and shadows is pathetic).

I´m also from Portugal and I just don´t pre order now because money is short here. I also don´t have lots of time for gaming so, I choose to have one good game for a couple of genres... one good game of action, one good game of soccer one good game for racing, and so on... So I´m actually selling my copy of GT5 to buy shift 2... yes that´s how good I think shift will be. I mean, come on! 5 years to develop something that feels incomplete?! How about the AI!? Still the worst in this genre, IMO. Shift delivers so much more fun, with less amount of things, but so much more quality. And I just want a game to have fun, not to get bored...

Dudes...

Shift was awesome, and Shift 2 will be like Shift but with more of everything, which makes it more awesome. I have a feeling I'll enjoy it more than I did GT5, and I enjoy GT5 alot right now.

Lol. GT5 has been out of my PS3 off and on since release day, sharing time with F1 2010. As of now it got a final boot about 2-3 months ago. Until they fix a-spec or give some DLC tracks, it will not return to my PS3. If Shift 2 turns out to be at least 80%+ what I expected GT5 to me, I will consider trading in GT5 for a new release of something else.

I got my PS3 back in 2008 for the very purpose of running GT5. Along the way I tried Ferrari Challenge, but it was undriveable (steering deadzone == defect garbage). Then GT5 finally came along - I dusted off my console only to find that they had made GT1 for the fifth time. I kind of liked GT1 so GT5 has stayed in my console since then :P

Now it seems that the GT racing game/sim I was hoping for is nigh. Could it be the one I'll glue to the spindle in my PS3? :dopey:
